I currently use a G4-450 which has these specs. Power Mac G4 450Mhz Sawtooth motherboard (pre gigabit) 256mb PC100 SDRAM ATI Rage 128 16mb AGPx2 video card 20g HDD DVD-ROM drive External Firewire Yamaha CDRW drive (CRW2100IX) Epson Stylus 1160 USB Printer Umax Astra 2200 USB Scanner. I have installed MacOS Z-9.04. Though this Mac originally came pre-installed and is bundled with MacOS Z1-8.6. I mainly use this computer to do adobe photoshop and macromedia freehand works under MacOS Z-9.04. My problem is that everytime I run the firmware update 4.2.8, it tells me that I must use MacOS9 which has a version of at least MacOS9.1. Problem is, I don't have MacOS9.1 (I can't also download it easily coz its big -- 70mb!). Anyway, the said G4 I mentioned came pre-installed and is bundled with MacOS 8.6 and I just upgraded this to MacOS9.04 via a CD I bought. I heard reports that these newer firmware, once applied, causes newer limitations to the computer... One of which is its inability to use MacOS earlier than MacOS9.1. I heard there are more aside from this... If I applied the "Firmware 4.2.8" update, does it mean that I won't be able to boot to my existing MacOS9 as well as the bundled MacOS8.6 even from the CD? Will my devices still be supported? I have another question about the Firmware update 4.2.8... My current OS version is MacOS Z9.0. The OS that was bundled on my G4 is MacOS Z1-8.6. So far, I have no real choice but to download the HUGE 70mb! MacOS Z9.1 *TWICE!*. Because I wrongly downloaded the USA MacOS 9.1. My question is this... Are there language-specific issues about the firmware update before and after its installation? I mean, does the firmware requires just MacOS9.1 in general or does it STILL require specific language so that it can run and do its thing and operate properly. Please he
