qmail will not work, since the qmail-smtpd doesn't know anything about the users that exist on the machine, so can't tell you anything about if the user exists or not.

I consider this a bug in qmail, since bounces will be much messier (since the bounce needs to come out of my computer, instead of upstream server/malicious user).
