BACK UP YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE YOU INSTALL THIS UPDATE!!!! This update trashed my system, it killed SpamSieve, destroyed my Safari bookmarks, and corrupted my Keychains. On top of that, I can't get Bluetooth status to stop showing up in my toolbar now either, no matter how many times I install it.
Frankly, I'd skip this update give that most people don't even have Quicktime for Java installed.

There is a known issue with FileVault messing up settings and other, files. Turn off FileVault. Wait the hour or so as it decrypts your home directory. Throw away and replace the damaged settings files. Do not turn on FileVault again, or at least until Apple releases a well - tested fix. This should solve your problem. Oh, and relax a little. Go to a movie. One not about computers :)Wednesday, November 05 2003 @ 12:52 PM PST

Just wanted to add in case anyone assumes I'm an idiot that I have regular scheduled backups so no probs there. It just seems a bit odd that a tiny li'l update can render everything, it would seem, in my home folder totally useless - did a complete reinstall of 10.3 in passing this morning (archive & install) but no prefs can be saved, Keychain Access still can't open my keychain, iTunes no longer recognises the music library, to list just a couple of initial observations. I've been using the new 'File Vault' facility to secure the home folder as I use a laptop (PB800, 1GB RAM) and am wondering whether this may have had a bad reaction to the update..?Reply to This
