Mozilla Firefox ReviewWould Love It A Little Faster But Nothing Else Compares To Firefox! - Version: 2.0.0.12, 2/8/2008 12:00AM PST

I WOULD like more speed with Firefox but I wonder if Safari was one-fourth as customizable and accommodating as Firefox if it would manage the same touted speed. There is simply so much you can do with Firefox - make text larger; size images; manipulate web pages; add tool bars; add enhanced security, privacy, and search features; change the appearance every day of the month; manage iTunes without leaving the browser; read e-Books right in the browser; care for photos, movies, and other media in the browser; get translations on the fly while browsing; and even further educate yourself while using Firefox. There are so many add-ons, themes, configurations, dictionaries, and extensions, one would be hard pressed to explore them all. Most of those enhancements are not available in Safari. Apple has "hard-wired" a meager list of features in Safari AND doesn't seem to put customers' desires high on their development list. Mozilla has an efficacious feedback process and is to be praised for its response to supporters' requests.

I wonder also if all fault for dilatoriness in Firefox should be laid at Mozilla's feet. I find Leopard and other Apple features more sluggish and hoggish than Firefox and believe Apple may be causing a portion of third-party problems.

Omniweb and Opera are generously featured and each nicely enhances the browsing experience in its own way. Firefox - for me, however - is hands down the champion of web browser innovation. I suppose, in the end, it comes down to what is more important to the individual.

If Mozilla did work a Ferrari engine into Firefox, I definitely would jump for joy (ditto for Leopard), but if just a handful of the Firefox accommodations were available in Safari I'd...well, I'd be so shocked, I'm not sure what I would do!
