Sorenson Squeeze Troubleshooting ReportVirtual memory error - Version: 3.0, 2/27/2004 06:16AM PST

moloq
Looks good in the box but after installing and using it for a couple of hours it started having a lot of trouble. First it started using up memory and not returning it to the system(how rude). The net effect was my 400 free megs of ram was reduced to 200 in about a hour. I was running memturbo every 30 minutes and that seemed to help, every 30 minutes memturbo would clean my ram and restore my 400 megs. But this next error really pissed me off, It was using virtual memory as well, doing the same thing, using memory and not returning it after the encoding session so virtual mem filled up. Memturbo couldn't help me there and I'm forced to reboot ever hour. How can you call any software a batching encoder if you have to intervine every hour to reboot, and set your batch up again, that's right folks, you can't save your batch settings so you have to set it up all over again. Oh yeah, oddly you won't find any of these errors on there "knowledge base". But there faq will tell you the difference between vbr and cbr. oooh lala.

Sorenson for a long time now and swore by it as I had a hacked version for Mac... with it being so stupidly expensive and me still struggling to make a living I'll use alternatives for progressive download and streaming, especially the Windows Media 9 codecs looking great - VBR audio and video with up to 2 passes... also there is a larger userbase for WM than Quicktime I'd think.
