Product Description:

WinZip, the original and most popular compression utility for Windows, is a powerful and easy-to-use tool that quickly zips and unzips your files to conserve disk space and greatly reduce email transmission time. WinZip seamlessly integrates with Windows and provides AES encryption to keep your files secure. In addition to its award-winning Classic view, WinZip offers an intuitive Wizard for beginners to quickly and easily accomplish basic zipping and unzipping tasks. WinZip 11.0 can automatically select the best compression method based on file type to take maximum advantage of the powerful compression methods introduced in version 10.0 to create even smaller Zip files. The Explorer-style view makes it easy to navigate large, multi-folder archives and the new thumbnail option gives you a chance to quickly see images in the main WinZip window. WinZip 11.0 is available in Standard or Pro. WinZip 11.0 Pro offers the WinZip Job Wizard, which allows you to automate your repetitive zipping tasks, back up data easily, archive important documents, or distribute information to others. You can even move your valuable data off site by using the included FTP upload functionality, or you can burn your Zip file directly to CD or DVD. With the new image viewer you can see full size images without having to manually extract them first. Other WinZip benefits include: ** Accomplish most common Zip-related tasks directly from Windows Explorer without ever opening a separate WinZip window. ** Protect your files with the same AES encryption (128- and 256-bit) approved for use by the US government. ** Zip and E-Mail files directly from Explorer with a single mouse click ** Split large Zip files into smaller parts to overcome email or removable media size constraints. ** Get the latest updates automatically with WinZip’s periodic update check. ** Automatically install software, desktop themes, and screen savers contained in Zip files. ** And much more…

WinZip ReviewZipeg does it better - Version: 11.2 Build 8094, 6/28/2008 01:23PM PST

leok7v
>Unicode support to ensure international characters are displayed...
>Zip file must be created and opened with a zip utility that
>supports the Unicode extensions to the Zip file format such
>as WinZip 11.2.

It seems that after each release of Zipeg for the last couple of years WinZip is trying to release the same feature. Zipeg with Image Preview -> WinZip with Image Preview, Zipeg with international filenames -> WinZip with unicode filenames, Zipeg supports Rar with encrypted filenames -> WinZip tries (and fails) to do the same...

The only problem is that WinZip is missing the point. 1. Zipeg uses EXIF (fast to read) to extract thumbnails. 2. Zipeg automagically determines the code page for the legacy .zip archives in addition to supporting Unicode filenames. 3. Zipeg is free software and does not try to lock you into any kind of un-archiving solution or nag you for money. 4. Zipeg works on both Mac OS X and Windows.

I do respect and admire earlier WinZip. But when WinZip was sold to a corporation the whole spirit of development changed. Look less professional and much more MBA driven now... :-(

It stands to reason that if an update is available for my computer then the Download button should be available for me to just click it,instead of having to prove who I am each time.If Yahoo,MSN and MySpace can develope a tool for signing me in when I come online,so can you.But I'm talking about you signing me in to whatever perspective client that I'm trying to upgrade from.

WinZip ReviewWorks on Vista - Version: 11.1, 8/18/2007 07:39AM PST

Bill Richard
WinZip 11.1 work on Vista and is a free upgrade from 11.0. It can unzip RZR and BZ2 files and has a new best compression option that chooses the best compression method to use based on the type of file being compressed. This has reduced the size of my backups, making them smaller than WinRAR! I also like the Job Wizard feature to back up my Documents folder although I edited the provided version to use the date in the zip file name option and to store it on my USB drive instead of in the default My Archives folder. I also got the WinZip/Companion combo pack. Companion is really nice. It works like magic. I just attach files to my email message and when I press send it zips them and replaces the attachments with the zipped version.
