Cheetah DVD Video ReviewFirst try - Version: 1.0, 8/24/2006 04:10PM PST

I have a number of .mpg and .wmv Files on my pc, after hunting the INTERNET for something to convert them to DVD and trying quite a few expensive ones for what I wanted, i found Cheetah on this site and it was free.

I installed the program.

On first viewing it is very simple and user friendly. It contains 5 main buttons, Remove; Remove All; Cancel, Convert and Website.

The one drawback is there is no way to browse for your file, you have to open the directory where the files are stored and then drag them into Cheetah, having done this i then clicked on convert, this brought up a window asking where i wanted the files to be stored. i set this up to a pre set folder in my videos on my 'c' drive

Cool we are ready to go, so now it is time to click Convert. I opened the empty folder in the directory window to watch progress and to divert problems if any.

Having clicked on convert 5 files were directly formed in the folder.

This program at the bottom of the screen has two Progress Bars, one for Decoding Video and the other for Converting to DVD Format.

The Decoding Video bar began to fill and the 5 files started to grow in size.

Once the bar was full 3 more files formed in the folder and one sub folder named DVD was formed. The Converting to DVD Format bar very quickly filled, flashed empty and filled again 3 times then a message appeared saying the process was complete and directed me to the DVD folder address for the video_ts and audio_ts files.

I closed Cheetah and opened the DVD folder, found the video files and played the video.

No problems.

Another drawback I found.
I do not have the fastest of computers but it is by no means slow in normal use but during the Decoding Video cycle 95% of the system was used and the program was still slow, very slow. The first trial above was a 4,006KB .wmv file and it took 32 minutes.
I then tried a 2,844,624KB .mpg file and it took nearly 5 hours.

This program seemed to do all i wanted and expected it to do for the price. It is fine for the occasional use but if frequent use is needed I would pay for a faster program, if I could find one.

I have a number of WMV Files lurking on my pc, after hunting the internet for something to convert them to DVD, i found Cheetah.

I installed the program, downloaded the K-lite Codecs pack to ensure i had the latest Codecs, i ran the Cheetah program.

On first viewing it is very simplistic and contains 5 main buttons, Remove; Remove All; Cancel, Convert and Website.

With this program there is noway to browse for your file, you have to open the directory where the files are stored and then drag them into Cheetah, having done this i then clicked on convert, this brought up a window asking where i wanted the files to be stored. i set this up on my patician D:

Cool we are ready to go, so now it is time to click Convert.

Having clicked on convert i sit and wait with bated breathe, and wait, and wait, nothing appears to be happening, leave it a little longer to see if anything appears

This program at the bottom of the screen has two Progress Bars, one for Decoding Video and the other for Converting to DVD Format.

I am watching these two bars and nothing appears to be happening, so i got my book out to have a read while i was waiting for this program to do its thing.

An hour later and still not progress indication is visible, but i still have the Hour Glass when i hover the mouse over the program window, but no indication of the progrm working, my harddrive light s not doing anything.

Two hours into the program and i still have not had any results, by this time i have assumed that the program is not functioning.

There is no help feature with this program, but a link to the website, which insidently does not contain any information about DVD Video whatsoever

I have given up on the program as i can ill afford to wait to see if the program finally converts my WMV files
