Product Description:

The Sunbird Project is a redesign of the Mozilla Calendar component. Our goal is to produce a cross platform standalone calendar application based on Mozilla's XUL user interface language. At the moment the "Sunbird" name is a project name. It is not official and may change in the future.

Our intended user is someone who uses Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird and wants a calendar application based on Mozilla.

In addition, by focusing solely on standalone calendar, we believe we can make some dents in the overall footprint and performance of the calendar application by removing components and chrome we don't need.

What's new in this version:

  • A new icon set which matches more closely the icon style of other mozilla applications
  • Category colors are now shown next to an event box, giving users a much better overview of their differently categorized events
  • Events with alarms now have a visual indicator showing an alarm bell
  • A totally overhauled alarm dialog
  • Sunbird now recognizes the timezone definitions in .ics files created by other applications. This fixes the longstanding issue of Sunbird miscalculating the date or time of events contained in those files

Mozilla guys do it again, works great on XP and Vista systems. A must have if you need a calendar / scheduler.

I have been using Sunbird since the Beta, and it works great. I use it under Windows XP HE and Pro, and 98SE. SP1 & 2 both work equally as well. It has great features, and highly recommend it, even over the Outlook Calendar. One downside: You have to go to the Mozilla website for documentation.

The biggest problem,is that you can't use it together whit iCal. Events made in Sunbird, wil be deletet - when iCal updates it's calendar...
But as a standalone app - it works fine on WIN2000 and Mac 10.3.
Just like Firefox and Thunderbird, it needs time to grow ;-)
