Product Description:

24U SimpleHighlight Plug-In is a sample FileMaker Plug-In project based on 24U FM Template. Its purpose is to highlight text and rectangular areas with a user-defined color. The new version 1.0.1 is an update to the copy distributed with FileMaker Developer 7.

24U SimpleHighlight Plug-In implements two color highlighting functions:

  • X24uL_Highlight(SearchString; Text) finds all occurrences of SearchString in Text and highlights them with color and/or style as defined in Preferences. All previous formatting of Text remains unchanged.

  • X24uL_SolidColor(Red; Green; Blue) generates a single pixel GIF image, which has the color specified by the Red, Green and Blue values. This image can be placed directly into a container field via the plug-in.

Main features:

  • highlights occurrences of search string in text
  • preserves original formatting of every single character
  • fills rectangular area with a color, optionally transparent
  • returns container type data
  • commented C++ source code included
  • Project for Visual Studio .NET 2003, CodeWarrior 9.5, XCode 1.1, 1.5, and 2.0
  • bonus C++ example functions for container data generation

24U SimpleHighlight Plug-In was created thanks to the collaboration of 24U Software and New Millennium Communications, Inc., and is available for download from both companies.

24U SimpleHighlight PlugIn ReviewMarginally useful - Version: 1.2, 9/2/2005 03:57PM PST

Text coloring: I don't see much point in using a plugin to perform a function that is alrady built in to FileMaker.

Solid Color Highlighting: might be useful if the color was, in fact, solid. Instead, it is a fade from solid color at top left to white at bottom right. No formatting changes that. Useful maybe for a small field (no wider than 90 pixels), bu not much else.

I presently use solid color global images to perform the same function, and they are solid from edge to edge.

Recommendation is based solely on its actual usefulness. It doesn't really do anything that isn't already easily done.

24U SimpleHighlight PlugIn CommentaryWHY!?!?!? - Version: 1.2, 9/2/2005 03:11PM PST

I am generally impressed with the various 24U plugins. This is a different issue:

WHAT NINCOMPOOP PUT UP A TAR.GZ FOR DOWNLOAD?

Isn't a plain old everyday zip archive sufficient any more, or is this possibly somebody's warped idea of making us work harder for freebies?
