I discovered the problem with the locked up preferences dialogs. Installing updates left multiple instances of Spamfire program installed. Be sure to uninstall old version after installing program update. (if you uninstall prior to updating, you'll loose all your preferences, including all the tweaked filters you've created)
Mostly Excellent

A nice port of the excellent Macintosh spam filtering application. Still some bugs in the windows version -- for instance, after using it for several months, I'm now unable to access the preferences dialog because the program just freezes up and needs to be force-quit.
Another annoyance is the fact that while running in the background, it likes to suddenly push my email client (outlook express) into the foreground as the front application, even if I happen to be doing something else at the moment.
Also some weird behavior with the application tray in windows where even after quitting spamfire, the icon in the tray remains until I mouse-over. .
I hope the developer continues to improve on the Windows version until it's on par with the Mac version.
As it is, its still much better than any of the 10 or so different Anti-Spam solutions I tried before Spamfire for Windows came along.
