Product Description:

Tux Paint is a paint program intended for young children (ages 3 and up). It has a very simple and fun-to-use interface, lots of sound effects, and a cartoon penguin who helps explain things. A variety of drawing tools are available, including a set of 'magic' special effect tools, and a 'rubber stamp' (or 'stickerbook') tool for placing pre-drawn and photographed images into a picture.

Tux Paint is free software, released under an Open Source license. It has been translated into over 2 dozen languages, including Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Greek and Hebrew. It also runs on Mac OS X, Linux and BeOS.

I've used this in an elementary / primary school and was disappointed that I couldn't export the paintings to other programs that could be used by the kids. Each painting is stored somehow inside the programme and can't be accessed apart from it.

It's an impressive programme that compares favourably with KidsPix but an export facility will bring it closer.
