This product is not compatible with ZoneAlarm Security Suite. I was running that but on a slower PC ZA's virus scans are too slow.
So Avast installs fine, scans fine on the first bootup after install, THEN tells you that it's not comp. with some feature in ZA and that you should turn off the incompatibility in Avast, THEN you need to go and set up special proxies in your browser(s) to make web pages load correctly.
Screw all that, too much of a problem, and REALLY REALLY irritating that the program didn't tell me RIGHT UP FRONT that it wasn't gonna be compatible with ZA instead of letting me get it all installed and spend 10 minutes running a startup scan...how utterly STUPID is that? Then you have to go through the hassle of uninstalling it if you don't want to have the hassle of setting up your web browsers special...which I don't, why bother? ZA will scan at night when I'm not at the PC is all. I *did* like Avast when I tried it on another computer I thought it was fairly quick...but this mumbo jumbo letting me install then getting all this crap...well bye bye, try again Avast authors. And another thing...if it's not compatible with ZA, then who knows what else it won't be compatible with...guess you take your chances if you're running something else, cuz they sure won't tell you up front!

We are being held hostage by the big antivirus companies that have fast realized that there's no better business than the one relying on someone's else'e misery. Overpriced application licences expiring in a year, no antivirus updates unless you're paying customer...you name it. Anyone remembers five years ago? Well, I am sticking with this baby for a simple and easy reaason, I LOVE their explanation why are they keeping it free for HOME USE (and it DOES WORK)! THANK YOU!
Free! yes it is free...

I,ve had Kaspersky, though it seemed to be to much for my weak PC, decided to try Avast! What a nuisance- within 2 hrs of surfing I've had Spyware- thanks to Microsoft's Antispyware Betta... I'm still gettig right tools to remove it... still want to try?

Have installed on 6 devices, replacing "a commercial" product. All devices remain safe and sound.
This is good software

I have been using this app on a p3 that also has a very well known commercial product installed. During the last go-round of worm mailings this program rooted it out while the other missed it entirely. And its a freebie. My compliments and gratitude to the authors.
I have installed Avast! to it and besides it didn't take machine (virtual) down to its knees, it actually busted a spyware dll which somehow managed to get into that virtual machine. A firewall, heuristical antivirus (spyware is unknown) running on a Mac PC emulator.
Gotta respect.
