Acronis True Image is friggen' great. This is one of few disk cloning programs that actually properly clones the whole drive including hidden partitions as found in IBM and Dell PC for restoring installations. I went through three or four disk cloning programs before I found one that actually worked right.

It also lets you clone a small drive to a big drive. In that way, you can migrate to a bigger disk drive without having to reinstall everything. Everything is there and it just works. You can't beat this.

My backup strategy is to clone all of my drives. I use True Image for that. When a hard drive fails (they don't last forever), I simply drop in the cloned drive and I'm up and running instantly; not spending a day reinstalling everything.

By the way, it's fast, too.

I once used these imaging programs, and while they're nice on the front end, when you go to restory you HD, it's another story altogether — one that usually involves a nightmare of configuration. Better, cheaper, and faster is to use one of the zip backup programs. AM-Zip by Aignes (http://hunterdavis.com/ssrss.html) allows you to use its own zip or any other external ZIP/RAR/PAR compression software you want. And it's really, really fast. I backed up an 850Mb folder in less than one minute!
