Product Description:

Revolution is an easy to use integrated development environment for Windows computers. Revolution supports cross-platform database access, advanced multimedia including Quicktime movies and virtual reality, and a range of other advanced features.Using Revolution's user interface layout tools and built-in Transcript programming language, developers can create standalone, double-clickable applications for any supported platform. You use familiar WYSIWYG tools to lay out your user interface, then write the code that ties it all together. Run and test your application right in the IDE.

Finally, either release your application as a file distribution that runs in the freely downloadable Revolution runtime, or build true double-clickable applications for release on each platform you want to support. Key features include support for Quicktime, Quicktime VR, native support for 10 image formats (including PNG, GIF and JPEG), audio, arrays, regular expression matching, Internet sockets and much more.

What's new in this version:

  • Use time-saving new syntax enhancements. Premier among the handy new key words in this edition are a collection of commands that extend the functionality of the Database Query Tool, making it faster and easier for you to construct and deploy custom database front-ends.
  • Learn from the new 377-page User Guide. Benefit from a manual nearly twice as beefy as earlier editions. Oodles of additional code samples. New sections on arrays, XML, encoding and decoding data, Unicode, printing, and Internet functions. More examples and walkthroughs than ever before.
  • Take control of the printed page. New commands and functions let you take programmatic control of every aspect of printing, including printer selection, page setup, printer options, and multi-page output. Specify paperless output with PDF on Mac OS X and XPS on Windows Vista.
  • Enhance your solution with smoother drag-and-drop. A rewritten drag-drop module in this release enables additional syntax for more thorough and reliable support for this essential user interface element.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Windows XP
  • Windows 2000
  • Windows NT
  • Windows 98

Revolution ReviewExcellent application development environment - Version: 2.5, 3/11/2005 10:43PM PST

Trevor_DeVore_685 (Blue Mango Learning Systems)

My company has been using Revolution for the last 3 years to develop multimedia applications involving history and tasked based learning. I've been extremely happy with it. Coming from a Director/Flash/PHP background it took a little getting used to the Revolution way of doing things but now I wouldn't go back.

Revolution's powerful scripting language combined with it's excellent database connectivity, easy dynamic creation of objects at runtime, QuickTime support, XML parsing and internet connectivity allow us to create rich user experiences. More than once I've discovered that adding a feature to our software was much easier than I had originally anticipated because of all the options that Revolution makes available. Highly recommended.

Revolution ReviewRevolution delivers.. - Version: 2.5, 3/9/2005 02:19PM PST

chippwalters (Altuit, Inc)

At Altuit, we use Runtime Revolution (RR) for many front-ends to our web-application server products. Included among them are popup alert managers, homeland security data sharing apps, our highly acclaimed "Hemingway" content management system and more. You can go to our developer website to learn more.

It really does deliver on the promise of cross-platform development. We have recently completed a brainstorming software development project for ExitPath called eXpertSystem, which will take the place of their award winning IdeaFisher product. They had been trying to deliver this same product for over 8 months using RealBasic. It took us all of a month to replicate the functionality, plus add many new features for our client.

We develop in C, C++ and all the scripting languages. But, we find we can develop applications an order of magnitude faster using RR. In cases where we need special functionality, we create our own externals to work with RR (including an embedded browser so developers can build their own 'i-Tunes' like client). RR is based upon 11-year old technology which gets better with each release-- that's why it is so stable.

Revolution ReviewStrongest ROI of any dev tool I've used - Version: 2.5, 3/9/2005 01:34PM PST

FourthWorld (Fourth World)
Rev is an unusual way of working, but it gives an unusually strong ROI for the brief learning curve.

I've been shipping commercial apps with it for years, and this latest release is the most rock-solid yet.

Thanks, Rev team!
