FileZilla has the advantage of reliability, which for an FT client is gold. The UI is pretty standard, but what I love most about it is when other FTP clients choke or fail, FileZilla comes through. The only one I've found that is as fast is EmFTP by Emurasoft.
Still a great app

Filezilla is continuing to improve, and is even nicer and more stable than in the past. The developers are responsive and seem to work on the project constantly, and produce an amazing piece of free software. Great app!

I've tried FileZilla more than a year ago. My friend recommended it as a very small, very powerful, free OpenSource FTP client. I tried it and liked it but at the time it didn't have enough features. Since then I used MANY different FTP clients. I'm a Computer Science student, on my 4th year and I use FTP a lot, also have my own server. So I tried the top of the line: WS_FTP Pro, Cute FTP Pro, Flash FXP and others, but the only client that I would prefer over FileZilla at the moment would be CuteFTP Pro - (that's $59.99 US). Now if you consider that FileZilla is FREE - that's an amazing piece of software with incredible amout of features: multiple uploads, resume support, site manager, SSL/SFTP, download/upload queue, custom commands and more... Of course it has a lot of settings - that's a must for the FTP client of such power, and I'm glad it has so many. The UI might not be as flashy and good-looking as one of corporate clients, but that's not what I need it for - it does the job sooooo well. Yes, it still has some small bugs, but unlike most of the corporate products they will be fixed very fast because it's an OpenSource.

Aftter using this app for two weeks, I can only say that it SUCKS. Yes, that is right it sucks. Here are the reasons why:
- UI offers nowhere near enough feedback I was constantly sitting waiting for a filelist or some sort of transfer and would have the program giveing me nothing teling me that its working. No noification of downloads complete or started, nothing. At least WS_FTP had those nice sounds.
- Unable to maintain connection reliably Oh man this was annoying as hell, between this and the lack of feedback as to why I am waiting I was pissed as hell.
- Preferences suck, overly complicated preferences Add to that the fact that many of the options are useless. The file sizes should all be relative sometimes im transferring HTML files that rarely pass 5K others im uploading 200MB media files and would like it shown as MB in the same folder as those 5K files.
- Preferences don't stick, the Quickconnect bar refuses to die Everytime I touched the Settings the quickconnect bar would toggle between showing itself and being turned off. I turned off many extraneous features like the tree views, transcript, and quick connect bar, so they should stay off.
- Program didn't crash but connection frequently lost Yeah, at least it didn't up and die, but its inability to stay conencted and constant transfer errors with NO DIALOGS or any type of feedback to tell me that something went wrong except for the tiny blurb available only in the Queue Section.
- Really Bad UI choices The file view size thing was one annoyance but another was teh file editor/viewer why doesn't it come with a sensible default using notepad for all non media files and windows image viewer for images and Media player for media. All those apps are standard and should be on user's apps by default. Another is the fact that on first launched your screen is littered with counteless useless windows until you go to the settings and turn them off.

Transmit does everything you said and more. What you need to understand about Mac programs is that the GUIs are always simplified to hide the complexity of what they represent. Transmit is far more powerful, fast and flexible than you give it credit for it also properly connects to secure ftp using SSH because if you haven't noticed it uses the ncftp engine. Anyone familiar with it knows that both ncFTP and Transmit are solid programs and that Transmit is well worth its fee. If you want that "extra information" there is a disclosure triangle at the bottom of transmits window that will show it to you. LIke I said before, the UI is simple because UIs always should be extrememly simple all the complexities are there only if you want them.
Yay! And ignore the slob.

This is one great app for the price! BTW ignore the mac dude, I am a long time Mac user and I just built myself a PC about a month ago for gaming and such (Love it!) And I decided to do some of my work on the PC as well. Please do not regard that one individual as a representative of all the Mac users. =) Cheers!
P.S. Keep up the great work! Love the FTP Client.
