I've tried the free personal version that is supposed to work with Vista. I had lots of problems that I erroneously assigned to Vista until I uninstalled this piece of crap software and everything worked perfect again. For example, I would load Yahoo Messenger and when I wanted to close it it wouldn't (right clicking its icon on the tray and choosing exit), and if I opened Task Manager Yahoomessenger.exe was still there, and selecting it and trying to kill it wouldn't work. The same happened with bittorrent and some other processes, and it also caused several minutes long delays on shutdown, all of which disappeared as soon as I uninstalled Zone Alarm. I installed the latest beta of Comodo firewall and everything works just fine.

ZoneAlarm has been my trusted firewall for ages but some of the recent versions seem to be unstable ZoneLabs do know this and have told ZoneAlarm users to install a previous version of the firewall that actully works.

I have used Zone Alarm for years, and recently tried out other firewalls. Check out Outpost and Kerio as alternatives. After installing ZA5, my computer seems slower and less stable. Also, I keep getting alerts that my Norton AV is out of date, even though it is not out of date. I plan on switching to Outpost after they fix one of the Win2k bugs. ZA is a fine product, but it is far from perfect.

Im extremely dissapointed but version 5 is a disaster of a product. It has disabled my norton antivirus email protection, this is a known issue on the zonelabs websitem but they havent cared to fix it yet. This problem happens regardless of how you configure zonealarm or norton antivirus. Norton also confirmed this is a problem with zonealarm.
So, unless you love to get an email virus, absolutely do not install untill zonelabs fixes this mahor issue. I cant believe they havent removed their product from the internet until they fix this issue.

I just installed this version today. I had a hell of a time to downgrade to 4.5 ( can still be downloaded from Zonelabs). Version 5 does not work in the presence of some other monitoring software (virus, popup etc.)
Wait until they have done some more beta testing.

While I still believe the built-in Firewall in OS X is the best "free" technically of any available on either side of the OS wars, Zone Alarm is the best for Windows and one just about anyone can figure out . The early Zone Alarm versions were a nightmare to understand for newbies.
Download it and use it, you can't beat the price. If you want more protection for a home or SoHo network, pop for the full priced version.

actually os x has a built in firewall that does wonders, and you can get a utility called "little snitch" for programs to ask for permission t access net, works just like zone alarm does, allow once, alawys allow this app, port specific settings, the works. i highly recommend zone alarm for windows and little snitch for mac os x

is as good as OS X, where's the Mac version of this software!!?? Until then only 3 stars. Actually, the Firewall software built into OS X is the best on the planet, Murkeysoft could only dream of something that good!
