I downloaded limewire and it was sucessfull but when I click the icon on my desktop it fades and limewire wont start any help?

I downloaded lime-wire a few days ago...it was perfect...I then also downloaded nearly all the other software...cool! but suddenly i cannot get limewire to work anymore...my spyware etc..is turned off or allowing them ( limewire) to get on my laptop...so there should be no problems there...but still..nothing...who can help me ? As a test I took off all the other stuff I had downloaded maybe that would help but still nothing,I phoned my Internet provider to see if they had any tips for me..but they wouldnt give me the time of day...so..again I love limewire..thats why I payed for it too...but getting no use from it...is terrible...help me please somebody..some wizz-person..I have an Acer laptop with windows XP...

Recommend staying current with your PRO version is recommended. I run on RoadRunner Cable internet service, with 4 other systems online, and can average over 500KB/s total downloads.
I have no system wide side effects due to this P2P software like I have had with so many others. I run LimeWire Pro on multiple Windows XP (Home, Pro and x64) as well as Windows Server 2003.

The splash screen takes a while to load on my system. But this program beats Morpheus with its adware; the download speeds are relatively fast. And the developers of this software seem to put out releases a couple of times a week. Great job!

limewire worked fine,i downloaded from purchased disc,upgraded (highly recommended )as suggested by the purchased version to 4.8.1 .now it will not open??? dpwnloads ok put icon on the desktop ..but refuses to open.

I have always enjoyed using limewire until this last week. I installed the newer version and since then it just will not open, I have deleted -removed-reinstalled and still nothing! I have even gone back and tried to reinstall the previous version and it just will not work. I have made sure that my firewalls are configured with the right ports to allow its use, I have even as the last measure gone back and restored my computer to last week-but now it won't work and I do not want to have to go back to those adware infested file sharewares I was using before. I want my limewire to work. I have Windows XP, I was told that a service pack I installed was responsible for the problem. Any suggestions?

We've used this program for over a year (two adults and two teenagers) here, and it is very solid. Although I use it to share many different types of files, the others in the household mainly use it for music file sharing. It works very well for all purposes. I've watched the program evolve; it just keeps getting better and better.
The user interface is so well thought out that new users can generally use the program without even reading the instructions, although it's best to read it. In fact, the interface is far better than one tends to find with most Windows programs.
Speed wise, it is at least as fast, in my experience faster, than other P2P programs of its ilk. There are a few speed tricks one can employ once you get a feel for the program. It also plays well with iTunes and iPods.
Another plus is that if you use additional computing platforms, as I do, you can still use the same familiar program. As it is written with Java, it will also run on Linux, Solaris, Mac OS, or Mac OS X, in addition to the Windows platform. The is a huge benefit for me personally.
Did I mention that the price is right? It's very good value for the money, especially considering the constant updating.

I finalyl gave in to the limewire pleadign an updated (basic, not pro) and it doesnt work. I have a Panther on a BWG3. I click on icon and the program does not open. It is in the "quit program" list bit not apparent anywhere else.
it was working until this brainy move.
I tried the latest version, regualr and then the beta one to no avail.
Any help in this rgeard is appreciated. i am not a big time downloader, just very occasionally.
