Trillian Basic - 3.1.12.0

I am envisioning a chat session where my little sister is chatting away with someone she met online and that person begins to make sexual advances. Instead of her having to take time to get offline, remember everything that was said during the conversation and only armed with that person's screen name and testimony of the conversation that took place, she could simply click a button on that chat session window which would pull in the aim user handle of both parties, the contents of the conversation window, as well as the server which initiated the chat and the remote ip of both parties involved, do a whois on the isp of those ip addresses, and automaticly post that information to a online form such as the one found at https://secure.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/CybertipServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US.

I realize there may implications to doing something like this such as abuse by anyone having a particular bias against another but with the ability (according the aim sdk) to read the contents of chat session window without user interaction, I can forsee a system where the conversation in question can be processed and assigned a severity level to help drive traffic down, I can also see a disclaimer for the user that is flagging the conversation to have to agree that the concern is a valid one.

Trillian on my Windows machines, Fire on my Macs. It doesn't get any better than that for me... Even the basic Trillian with it's grand skin support intuitive interface, for a Windows person that is, is more than enough to satisfy the overwhelming majority of most people's needs for a simple text chat app. If you really need the video and audio support, which would be amateurish and novel at best for most of you, then get the "full featured" apps separately. Hey, I'm not telling you anything, you don't already know.

Trillian has one crippling flaw: You can't communicate with any AIM contacts who have non-alphanumeric characters in their usernames... which includes half of the AIM users in my contact list. Those contacts will not show as online, nor will you appear online to them, nor will you be able to IM or chat with them. Users of Apple's iChat will frequently have "@mac.com" in their usernames, which meets the criteria for triggering this bug.

The client itself is reasonably nice... The interface is a bit befuddled in some ways, but nothing too serious. It looks reasonably pretty, although has some graphical artifacts with moving windows and such. It has a good selection of features... but in the end it's just not useful for me due to its one crippling bug, and doesn't hold a candle to Proteus on the Mac.

Apparently the $25 Pro version has fixed this, but the developers are taking their sweet time fixing the basic version. I'm going to look elsewhere for a multi-service chat client rather than pay for a bug fix.

Oh, the uninstaller also left a bunch of crap behind, including the Trillian.exe.

existing Yahoo groups unless invited - Including public chat rooms... And I tried this client because the Yahoo java chat applet doesn't run on my machine. Very disappointed.
