VueScan Great Once Again

When it first came out, this software was a godsend for scanners with poorly written or non-existent software from the manufacturer, particularly on the Mac. Then, from my perspective, the program gradually became more complicated to use, slow, and tended to produce unacceptable results. At this point, I stopped using VueScan altogether. Recently, sick of all the craplets HP installs and updates endlessly on Windows machines just to use their scanners, I have gone back to VueScan and found it to be once again easy to use and to produce excellent results. As an added bonus, I could uninstall the HP craplets since VueScan uses its own driver for my scanner. Shareware is sometimes abandoned by the developer and becomes unworkable. VueScan, in contrast, has been around for many years and seems to be as aggressively supported and updated by the developer as it was in the beginning.

Recently bought an HP AIO C6180. Sounded good in other user reviews, has wireless networking built in, etc. Then I installed the HP software and lost about three evenings worth of productivity and managed to scan maybe all of a few pages successfully. The HP software has to be the worst possible in recent memory of device I have encountered. Started looking for a generic alternative to end this horror story. Found VueScan, read good reviews and decided to give it a try. As others state, how refreshing! Clean interface, immediate detection and effective functionality with the HP C6180 scanner, both the doc feeder and the flatbed. Fast PDF creation, unlike the HP software, which was unbelievably slow at this on a fast Core 2 Duo machine. Long story short, I decided to spring for the Pro version at $79.95 to just be done once and for all with this and have it working right. Happily scanning documents and no longer frustrated with stuff that should work, but does not at all. Thank you Hamrick software.
