The Mac OS equivalent of WinMX is Drumbeat. They both tap into the napster network. Both provide a high percentage of good hits. Unfortunately, Drumbeat costs$$$.

WinMX CommentaryTHE p2p app - Version: 3.3.1, 10/16/2003 10:48PM PST

Running WinMx with Win98/VPC-5 on a G3 upgraded 6500 PowerMac -- Solid as a Rock. This is worth the price of VPC all by itself. Consistant hits and responsive downloads - *almost* as good as Napster in its heyday. Music and Movie Heaven.

Amused at all the requests for an OSX version of this app (take a hint WinMx folks - Just Do It ... or, at least, how 'bout a v3.4 ;-)

But, why can't a Mac Developer come up with a p2p on par with WinMx? Is it because there's some *particular* networking *feature* possible with WinTel that Mac doesn't have? Any precise and exact reason for *whatever* this *shortcoming* appears to be?

Unless there's something unique regarding WinTel and its Networking abilities, sure seems that someone should be able to replicate the success of WinMx with OSX's Unix foundation. We're waiting.

WinMX ReviewNote: Mac OS… - Version: 3.3.0, 11/28/2002 11:57PM PST

X users can use XNap, which uses the exact same protocol as WinMX. IMHO, the interface is better too, but WinMX is pretty good for Windows, though the interface really is a little...

make a MacOSX version.. I've become more and more a non-win user and I don't want to have to install Virtual PC just to use this app..
