AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) ReviewBig problem with V6 - Version: 6.0.28.1, 11/16/2006 02:43PM PST

I used V5 to edit text that was sent to me, and it worked well. Now V6 does NOT allow resizing the text entry frame. As a result, I cannot see enough of what I am writing to properly edit.

Until this is fixed (resizable text entry frame), I'm goint to have to use some other IM program.

This worked great thru my corporate firewall, so it's a loss. But now it is unusable.

AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) CommentaryIt Spent 5 Minutes Before I Deleted It - Version: 5.9.3861, 12/21/2005 12:33PM PST

The latest AIM download (WinXP)includes AOL Explorer, which I didn't want, being an extremely satisfied Firefox user. So I look up in the help on how to remove AOL Explorer and it tells you to use Windows uninstall via the control panel. That's very cool...exept the only problem with this is that you either delete AIM completely or you sit down and shut up while AOL Explorer launches every $%^&#-ing time during startup. AOL cannot only kiss my ass, they may stare longingly at it as I walk away from them for the last time. I should have waited and bought a Mac with iChat.

This gives you everything and then some.. lots of storage, video and radio and free aol email and instant messaging and even a stock or news ticker if you choose. I know its cool to be down on AOL, but its more than I get from my free gmail.. and the video search actually plays video.

AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) Usage Tipfeature request - Version: 5.9.3702, 4/8/2005 07:46PM PST

I am envisioning a chat session where my little sister is chatting away with someone she met online and that person begins to make sexual advances. Instead of her having to take time to get offline, remember everything that was said during the conversation and only armed with that person's screen name and testimony of the conversation that took place, she could simply click a button on that chat session window which would pull in the aim user handle of both parties, the contents of the conversation window, as well as the server which initiated the chat and the remote ip of both parties involved, do a whois on the isp of those ip addresses, and automaticly post that information to a online form such as the one found at https://secure.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/CybertipServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US.

I realize there may implications to doing something like this such as abuse by anyone having a particular bias against another but with the ability (according the aim sdk) to read the contents of chat session window without user interaction, I can forsee a system where the conversation in question can be processed and assigned a severity level to help drive traffic down, I can also see a disclaimer for the user that is flagging the conversation to have to agree that the concern is a valid one.

AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) ReviewTrying to cram it full of too much stuff... - Version: 5.9.3690 beta, 9/21/2004 12:02PM PST

Belpowerslave
Though VT still says that it's a beta, the official release for 5.9.3690 came out a few days. Really kinda sucks too. Like it's been stated about its beta form, it really will *not* allow you to kill the AIM Today pop up, even if you disable it in the options. Also puts crap at the bottom of your Buddy List, linking to all the new stuff they've put in AIM. Now, I don't mind additions and such, but come on AOL, if we don't want to use it...please let us hide and/or disable it. Makes you wish Netscape Instant Messenger(the one that cames with Macintosh Netscape Communicator) was available on the PC...
