Yahoo Messenger ReviewYahoo Messenger Games with Vista - Version: 8.1.0.421, 11/17/2007 09:50AM PST

The next beta 9 version that is available now to run on Vista does not include Yahoo Messenger Games at all!

So, since my brother likes to play chess with me via his Yahoo Messenger 8.1 version, I must use the same while running Vista Ultimate. In order to actually play chess with him I must first turn UAC (User Account Control) off. Do so via CONTROL PANEL\USER ACCOUNTS. This will involve a reboot of the computer. One must leave it off if one wants to play games through Yahoo Messenger.

I can not figure out how to play the single games in Yahoo Messenger 8.0. I can only find where to play with another person.
Also I cannot figure out how to change my display name when I type in messenger. My full name is listed up at the top of my messenger and when I send a message it shows my full name. I would like to change this.

Thank you.

Yahoo Messenger CommentaryYahoo--the mac user's bane - Version: 7.0.0.437, 11/29/2005 01:08PM PST

Yahoo for mac was so lacking in the features I needed that I downloaded a CPU emulator (Qemu), obtained a copy of Windows XP, installed the guest opperating system, and then downloaded yahoo messenger. So what happens? It opens, sits there with a partially rendered window, and then crashes asking me if I would like to send an error report to Microsoft. I may actually review this product later, but I am hoping to at least give it the benifit of actually being used before I do (assuming that is beneficial to it for a review). I scrapped the entire OS and started from scratch, re-installing the messenger program, and it did the same thing. Yahoo!, what is wrong with you people?! Your new Mac messenger has no new features which are useful to me, and your Windows version doesn't run on Windows!!!! According to your product requirements all I need is Windows 98, NT, 2000, or XP, and I have that! If anyone actaully knows what to do about this, please let me know. Everything else works fine in my guest OS, so I am assuming it is something about this program.

Unfortunately, Yahoo Messenger over the last few major releases has become pretty offensive.

Using the in-client upgrade feature from YM6 to 7, it installed desktop icons, toolbar tray icons, a browser bar, and Yahoo Extras without asking. There was no "custom install" option to allow me to deselect those. The installer is aware of Firefox, but since Firefox was already open, it had to ask me if I wanted to close it to install the toolbar. Whew, lucky it was open!

The latest default nuisance content seems to be Yahoo Buzz. (Like other content bars and Launch! you can turn it off in the preferences.)

It also has a feature enabled by default that seems to scan your IM text for keywords that match well and highlight them.

Allegedly YM7 has security upgrades. It has a VoIP system to compete with Skype and Google. Yahoo still has some of the best emoticons and the invisibility feature, too. But it's really not worth the hassle anymore.

If you really like a lot of content turned on by default, and don't mind overrunning your PC with unrequested extras, this is a good IM client for you.

Yahoo Messenger ReviewYahoo Beta Chat Stinks! - Version: 7.0.0.249, 8/12/2005 12:22AM PST

I have used this chat program for several months and have had nothing but trouble with it. I have not been able to get any support from yahoo help nor from any of the letters I have written either. It has many glitches, such as, I cannot send or recieve files of any kind, I cannot go into chat rooms without it telling me that I have been signed out because I have been signed in on another machine, also I cannot view anyones cam nor show anyone my cam. I ahve tried to reintall it in total, that did not help. I am now going to remove this program and reinstall an older version.

Yahoo Messenger CommentaryRegd contacts - Version: 7.0.0.249, 7/24/2005 11:45AM PST

vetronix_gmb
Hi, I am a regular user of yahoo messenger, and I like the product. I think it is one of the greatest tools of communication. Now my suggestion is that, normally when contacts sign in and get off, we dont know when they actually did sign in or off. That is when we log on, we are not aware whether any of our contacts had come online a while back or not.

I would like to suggest that if there is a time stamp for each contact which is recorded when the contact comes online, it would be helpful. That is when the user logs in, and uses his mouse to point to the contact, he/she would know when last time the contact had come online.

Regardless to say, I LOVE THIS PRODUCT. if this feature is also added it wud help a lot.

thanx
sairam

It'll be nicer if yahoo messenger would have the following features too: 1 Posibility to disable e-mail notification (some times it is very annoying) 2 Some contacts to be in many groups 3 Possibility to hide offline contacts only in some groups
