Norton & AVG do not cooperate with Vista well....yep, had them both for a long while...and I hate to tell you how many background apps and services they both run... get a free something like spybot and forget the packages....runs well with defender and..oh yeah..my startup time is less than 70 seconds...on vista...took me a while to configure this well, so really I don't care if anyone disagrees at all...came on this site to see if anyone else has figured out how bad these programs are with windows now...as for me, I'm set...

Norton Retail supplied with Vista Retail (premium) just keeping hammering the disk drive. Symantec is silent. I took this off and put on the Corporate version and this works!, but of course this is not licensed, so I took it off!.
I have tried AVG Personal (free) works fine and so does the Business version.
Come on Symantec stop hiding behind the statement" Microsoft would give us the code to allow the codes to run our scanner efficently".
The other products on the market work. Microsoft recommend AVG as well as Norton Symantec. Why not fix the retail version and make it run in background on Vista like Corporate version and other peoples products.

I can't find what version my 2007 Norton is using. Live update says up to date but there are newer definitions out there and can't find what definitions it is using like you could in 05 & 06. Am I missing where to look. This is a very unfriendly version.. not that the others were all that user friendly

It's very budget, slow, unstable, and just plain awkward. There are more effective shareware solutions. Don't buy into it just because it is a big name software item. Quality is what counts.

Norton were pretty poor, but from a systems admin standpoint, NOTHING touches the new 7.5. The admin console, universal definition updating, virus containment servers, warnings, and a quick view of what definition every machine on your LAN is on is invaluable. For the home user, I'm not sure about the latest version, but for a Systems Admin, there's absolutely nothing better. You can remotely install the client, then lock it down so users can't stop it from scanning or auto-updating, which we used to have huge problems with.

on Win 9X. The reason Corporate doesn't work on 9X is 9X isn't a NOS (network operating system). It also doesn't have all the features in NT/2k/XP that corporate uses for just about all it's features. Explain to me how to push an install to a 9X machine? Not possible.
