Product Description:

WinZip, the original and most popular compression utility for Windows, is a powerful and easy-to-use tool that quickly zips and unzips your files to conserve disk space and greatly reduce e-mail transmission time.

What's new in this version:

WinZip 11.2 is an update to our most recent major release, WinZip 11.0. In addition to the features introduced in WinZip 11.1 and WinZip 11.0 (outlined below), WinZip 11.2 changes include:

  • Unicode support to ensure international characters are displayed for filenames in a Zip file when the Zip file is shared between two computers having different code pages (the default set of text characters available for display.) For Unicode support, the Zip file must be created and opened with a zip utility that supports the Unicode extensions to the Zip file format such as WinZip 11.2.
  • Integrated support for LHA to create, open and extract LHA archives (.LHA and .LZH). This eliminates the need for a third-party DOS program.
  • Removal of support for DOS-based, third-party programs such as ARJ and ARC.
  • Minor bug fixes and enhancements.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Windows Vista
  • Windows XP
  • Windows 2000

WinZip Usage TipUpgrades - Version: 11.1 Build 7466, 12/23/2007 06:47AM PST

It stands to reason that if an update is available for my computer then the Download button should be available for me to just click it,instead of having to prove who I am each time.If Yahoo,MSN and MySpace can develope a tool for signing me in when I come online,so can you.But I'm talking about you signing me in to whatever perspective client that I'm trying to upgrade from.

WinZip ReviewWorks on Vista - Version: 11.1, 8/18/2007 07:39AM PST

WinZip 11.1 work on Vista and is a free upgrade from 11.0. It can unzip RZR and BZ2 files and has a new best compression option that chooses the best compression method to use based on the type of file being compressed. This has reduced the size of my backups, making them smaller than WinRAR! I also like the Job Wizard feature to back up my Documents folder although I edited the provided version to use the date in the zip file name option and to store it on my USB drive instead of in the default My Archives folder. I also got the WinZip/Companion combo pack. Companion is really nice. It works like magic. I just attach files to my email message and when I press send it zips them and replaces the attachments with the zipped version.

They can't keep up with technology.
We are site licensed and have been since version 8.
Version 9 came out and was a huge let down because it can't decode RAR format.
Now, here we are with another major update, and still no RAR!
We are stuck with it, but if you are a new potential customer, be aware that they don't listen to their customers and they can't keep up.
Look at Power Archiver, or Stuffit!
Both keep up very well with the industry, and both can decode just about anything!
WinZip has the name, but that's about it.
Until they get with the program, look for another solution.
We get plenty of calls in our I.T. department with users that can't decode their e-mail, and it's frustrating for us and them.
Save youself the headache!
