Why, oh why? - Version: 9.0 Beta Build 8455, 6/4/2006 09:15AM PST

A Nony MouseThis is perpetual BETA ware much like Mac OS X's Omniweb which is equally as useful- no doubt they both work but when you tell your users that you should expect problems here and there it basically should at some point be stable for a full release instead of trying to avoid being labelled as buggy by sayin, "hey, its still BETA, be careful.." No, maybe its just not a stable product- but for free who gives a darn.

Best browser out there

TezkahFirefox also needs many, many extensions to make things work to my liking. Opera on the other hand comes with everything ready, such as mouse gestures, URL Filtering, IRC, etc. It is also much nicer on my memory than Firefox (Try leaving Firefox running overnight, you'll find its using all your memory.)
For those who complain that it is "thrashing their hard drives" (whatever that means), they're simply mistaken. Unless you have less than 192mb of RAM, you won't notice any harddrive activity. You could complain that it uses up more RAM when running, but this is only so it can instantaneously go back and forward. Try clicking the back arrow, or using a mouse gesture. On Firefox and IE, it goes to the harddrive, and is delayed. On Opera it keeps the cache in the RAM, and you get instantaneous movement. When you minimize Opera, the RAM is released. I mean, what else would you be using the RAM for when web browsing?
M2, the mail component is also awesome. It alerts me to new emails by showing an icon in the taskbar, and is only two clicks away when I'm browsing. I'll be using Opera for many years to come.
The price is expensive since web browsers are usually free, but you get what you pay for. Simply the best browser out there, and you can always get a student discount if you go to school.

mandersIts handling of HTML is perverse compared to IE and Firefox, particularly with Yahoo's pages
On the plus side it disables 'no-right-click' scripts, has a good pop-up blocker (but not as good as Firefox's), and admittedly is a very small download, though, as i say, it makes the hard disk thrash nearly as much as netscape, and doesn't feel at all lightweight.
I'm sorry, but with Firefox - a better browser- being free, you'd have to be very devoted to the software-makers to stay loyal to this app.

DysthymiaThere are NO memory leaks or mismanagement of memory of any kind in Opera, it uses free ram when it's available and gives it back when the OS or other programs needs it. You can have 50 pages open and it will use how much of free ram that is needed, but if you minimize Opera to use another program it will give the ram back to the OS and drop down to 2-10 mb of ram used by Opera.
Opera follows the guidelines and standards of the W3C, but also have a lot of quirks like IE has to render badly coded pages. So if it doesn't render it, then you know why. Also, about CSS, HÃ¥kon Wium Lie, which invented CSS works for Opera Software ASA. So, yes, Opera handles CSS as it should.

militarisOnce use to Opera it is easy to use and makes browsing more enjoyable.
Many people are scared because of the Ad banner but I have found it useful on several occassions and its presence rarely affects browsing at all. The banner is more helpful then hiddering if you display google ads.
Opera leaves the other browsers behind. If you currently use IE please change, it is a horrible browser. If you use firebird, you are useing a good product but you are still missing out.

Does this mean that I need to compare a listing from XP's add/remove programs, or some other source for what I do have on my machine, to VersionTrackerPro's list of my installed software? If I notice any other differences how would you suggest I notify you?
