Apple iMovie Troubleshooting ReportBug or no bug? - Version: 8.0.5, 10/14/2009 07:52PM PST

Upgraded to IMovie 8.0.5. When I start IMovie I get the following notice: "The QuickTime component necessary to view, edit, import, and export high-definition movies is not installed. It is included with the iMovie installer; please re-install."

Why. The IMovie was installed when I first loaded the operating system; I don't have a separate installer. Perhaps its on the application install disk, but I don't to restore the computer to its original state --its an early 2009 install disk set.

My computer is a Quad Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz, with 6MB main memory

iMovie has gone downhill since v6. At least put both versions on-line so people can use one that actually is useful

Apple iMovie ReviewNo matter how much they update it... - Version: 8.0.5, 10/14/2009 01:29AM PST

...it's still terrible, absurd, incomprehensible, illogical, annoying.
The worst program Apple has ever released... and it's even more depressing when you think iMovie 6 used to be nice!

I only use iMovie 6, with many nice plugins that of course iMovie 8 doesn't enable, being so rich of features itself (lol)

...this iteration sucks the joy out of the room. iMovie 6 was the right direction and worked well with sound editing. iMovie 8 is an incredibly bad joke that Apple ran on us.

I am sorry to say that Jokyo777 below here is correct.
iMovie 6 was far more usable and the incompatibility of iMove 8 with iMove 6 is extremely disappointing. You would think Apple would come out with a converter so your projects in iMovie 6 are not dead. Projects need to be completely redone. What was apple thinking? Not like the Apple I know.

The ease of use of iMovie 6 was great. Got it done quickly.
I am now trying to learn Final Cut Express to recreate all my projects in iMovie 6. But Apple my change that next. We need more flexibility to run these apps in each program like it used it be. Don't close the door on us.

Sorry

UGLY AND UNBEARABLE ? - richl59
You are correct...this is a terrible program. I use iMovie 6 as well. Much better, faster, more features, etc. etc.

iMove 8 lacks the ease of use and intuitive interface of previous versions. I tried it. And I tried it again, and then again. Just couldn't find the thread of logic. I just didn't have the time to mess about so I am using iMovie 6.03 and can really put flick together quickly.

Of course 6.03 will break on a future system update and well, I just don't have the stomach for iMovie 8. I mean if the learning curve is going to be high, I might as well learn Final Cut. Or was that the intention Apple?

Please, please, please come to iMovie 8.0 's defense and tell me I'm an idiot. Tell me how great it is!

Or post your feelings and let Apple know what a rotter they have here!

I have iMovie 09 installed, version 8.0.1, but the installer claims I don't need the update and won't install it. What gives?
