MobiSystems Diets ReviewMy choice in diet management for Palm OS - Version: 5.00, 12/30/2005 04:05PM PST

redjen_dotmac
I'm on day four of my fifteen-day trial of this product.

I've tried some of the other diet managers listed on Version Tracker, and I'll probably stick with this one. My decision really has more to do with form than it does function. MobiSystems Diets is the only product I've found that supports hi-res displays at 320x480. The others have jagged, ugly icons and fonts.

The interface is simple and intuitive. I had no problems learning how to track my daily eating and excrcise activity, add new foods and excerises, and view reports without consulting the manual.

The food database is extensive, but I found that it did not work well for me. I don't need vast lists of baby foods, beans, and Arby's sandwiches. I decided to remove the built-in food databases and add my own items manually. Since I tend to cook my own food or eat at Wendy's (it's like my own personal cafeteria, which is likely why I need a weight-management app in the first place), this is easy for me.

It does encourage you to weigh yourself daily, which I find a overly obsessive.

It lacks some of the features that similar programs include, but all I want is something that looks decent and lets me track the calories, carbs, protein, and fat content of foods I eat. My goal is not to be obsessive, but to get an honest look at my overall eating and exercise habits and use that mindfulness to change. I think this product will do that just fine.

I do wish that there were a conduit for syncing with a desktop app. No diet product seems to offer that for the Macintosh.
