Product Description:

Gamma Control is an application that gives you the possibility to adjust the gamma correction curve of the screen. Use the application to calibrate the screen for new ambiant conditions without having to use the ColorSync Calibration Assistant. You can save your multiple settings in documents and retrieve them when needed. The settings you change are not saved into the current ColorSync profile and are restored when you quit Gamma Control.

What's new in this version:

Changes since version 2.2

User interface
- Added text fields to edit correction values.
- Added color names — red, green, blue — over each slider; before that you had to guess or experiment to find them.
- Replaced the simple mode with an option to show or hide color targets.
- Better VoiceOver support.
Problems have been solved with the option “Affected Screens: Screen touching control window�? which should now work as expected.
A new preference setting allow the gamma correction to be reapplied continuously.
Native support for Mac OS X on Intel processors.

So what's the difference using this and what's available in the Sytem Prefs for adjusting?

As a fellow DELL (2005FPW) monitor owner, all you have to do is go into the monitor's OSD, and manually reduce RGB values (in equal amounts), this will decrease the overall brightness of the monitor without having to skew your gamma to the point where colors aren't properly displayed (images & video too dark).

My eyes were bleeding from the blaring whites of the Dell 2405. A good looking, inexpenesive monitor - but one that is brighter than the sun.

This app literally saved me from having to return the monitor because it enabled me to turn down the whites (hint hold command down to turn them down all at once.

I love the fact that I can dock the app and therefor easily turn the correction on and off. I tried many calibration tools, but nothing would let me just get the whites down to a viewable area. I hope other mac users with Dell monitors discover this application. Thanks.
