Product Description:

One of the internet's first instant messengers, that has evolved into a personal communications center: ICQ allows you to exchange files, chat, send SMS to many cellular networks around the world, send and check email, keep records of your messages, exchange web addresses and more. Highly configurable with many useful little features.

What's new in this version:

Improvements since version 3.2
  • Interoperability with AIM and iChat instant messengers. You can add users from those messengers to your Contact List and exchange instant messages with them.
  • Better peer to peer connectivity: MacICQ now supports passive p2p connections for users behind firewalls.
  • Users behind firewalls can now choose their listen port range.
  • Auto-reconnect (available in the Connection panel of the Network and Security window). Users with a permanent internet connection should turn this on to avoid occasional disconnect messages.
  • Easy way to enter active URLs directly into outgoing messages.
  • New support for unicode text entry (e.g., for Arabic and Hebrew)
  • Cosmetic issue: Incoming SMS messages are now displayed (as opposed to not displayed in the previous version, a feature which some of you did not appreciate).
  • The Contact List can now display names in multiple languages.
  • URLs are read from Safari.
  • Clickable URLs in message windows.
  • Many bug fixes

ICQ ReviewThis app is useless - Version: 3.4.23, 1/12/2008 04:59PM PST

mxracinguy
The last time this app was updated was in 2003 - that's coming up to 5 years. You cannot send/receive files with this app. About all you can do is chat. How lame is this? If you can't send or receive files like you can with the pc version, than this is a completely useless app. This developer clearly has abandoned Macs.
Total waste of time.

ICQ Troubleshooting ReportNo sms - Version: 3.4.23, 7/9/2007 05:02AM PST

hstauttener
I cannot use the sms-service. I always get the message "The cellular network is currently unable to send your message to the recipient. Please try again later."
But this happened also months ago and no improvement so far. What am I doing wrong?

And it looks very 1999 :-(

ICQ CommentaryStone age software - Version: 3.4.23, 8/21/2006 08:34AM PST

Even a year can be an eternity when considering software. As I write this, ICQ 3.4.23 is over three years old. Since new Macs are capable of running MS Windows, I doubt there is any incentive to ever write a new version of this.
