Product Description:

  • CDFinder is a fast and powerful disk cataloger tool that catalogs almost anything that spins, hard disks, DVDs, CD-ROMs, ZIP disks, server volumes, or even Audio-CDs and the iPod.
  • Catalog data can be shared in a network for multiple users.
  • Together with the separate CDWinder for Windows, data can even be shared cross-platform!
  • Save a lot of time by importing existing Disk Recall, Disk Wizard, Iomega FindIt, Disk Tracker, Catalogue, and CatFinder catalog files.
  • CDFinder can handle large amounts of data
  • Powerful Find functions allow data mining.
  • CDFinder reads StuffIt, Compact Pro, ZIP, TAR, and even Apple Installer (Tome) archive files.
  • CDFinder reads and searches a range of MP3 tags, along with additional information about multiple types of sound files.
  • Multilingual, eight languages in one application: English, German, French, Italian, Swedish, Spanish, Dutch, and even Chinese.
  • Easy Setup Assistant helps first time users to set up CDFinder.

What's new in this version:

  • A new toolbar in the main window makes CDFinder even easier to use (Mac OS X only!)
  • The Find window is completely reworked to look more like Aqua
  • The Preferences, Catalog options, and other windows now follow the Aqua guidelines
  • CDFinder can now ignore bundle contents when creating a catalog (skip contents of .app, or .bundle packages)
  • CDFinder can now limit the cataloging to a certain folder depth, if you want it
  • Reading ZIP archives now handles large archive files better, and also filters out the Mac OS X specific invisible entries
  • The AAC reader now supports .m4b audio book files, and handles certain umlauts better, and works better with files coming from allofmp3.com
  • The MP3 reader now handles certain large MP3 files with loads of extra tag data, like cover pictures, better
  • The list of genres for Audio-CDs is extended from 7 to more than 150
  • Exporting is improved. It will now output Audio-CD data better, and also write the comment of a catalog, and offer a new format (Microsoft Excel)
  • Several AppleScript improvements and fixes
  • The display of the date is now correct even in different time zones
  • The Found Items window can now again handle more than 33,000 items properly
  • The icon size for the list windows can now be different for every window
  • CDFinder can now ignore the Finder labels when creating a new catalog
  • As usual, a couple of other minor issues has been solved
  • IMPORTANT: This is the last version of CDFinder that will run in Mac OS 9. All future versions of CDFinder will require Mac OS X 10.2 or newer.
  • IMPORTANT: This is the last version of CDFinder that will read the catalogs created by CDFinder 2.8 and earlier. Please convert your old catalogs to the new format introduced in CDFinder 3, by using the "Convert Catalog(s) to new format" menu command in the Special menu!

CDFinder ReviewWorks perfectly - Version: 5.5, 1/29/2009 06:44AM PST

welcome--2008
I must say I'm very impressed. I thought Virtual Machines weren't recognized (cf. my previous post) but it was only a matter of deactivating an option in the preferences. I therefore correct my evaluation: this app rocks by all means and it undoubtedly deserves 5 stars. Also the developper's response is terrific.

CDFinder ReviewNo Virtual Machines recognition? - Version: 5.5, 1/29/2009 05:23AM PST

welcome--2008
I'm evaluating CDFinder 5.5 and I'm quite disapointed about one thing: it doesn't recognize virtual machines from Parallels or VMWare Fusion. Instead, the catalogue says the folder size containing the virtual machine is 0 Bytes, which means you have to calculate these sizes manually! Not very practical and quite annoying, because CDFinder is otherwise great. Hope the author finds a fix.
