Regardless of free competiton, MacVector is an invaluable tool for the Mac. It does things all other Bioinformatic apps cant, but then, this is true for each app, and you probably need a suite of apps to solve your needs. Nevertheless, MacVector is at the TOP of the list.

Vector NTI was bought by Invitrogen and is now FREE for non-commercial (i.e. academic) users. VNTI used to be around $3000, like MV. The one drawback to this is that VNTI doesn't run well with Tiger yet. But once it does, it'll be tough competiton for the folks at MacVector.

Good product, though the updates are a little wonky lately.

Been using it for one day. There's an annoying little bug that dings the system bell when the MacVector splash screen comes up. Fortunately, there's a fix, provided by Accelrys: Create a folder, "NCBI Data", in the MacVector folder. No more bell.
Looking forward to using the new features!

Invitrogen just completely shot their credibility - not just as a software vendor but as a supplier too - by holding users data hostage to a ransom.
So kudos to all those who stayed with MacVector.
