Product Description:

PuzzlePalace is a drag and drop way to use the strong encryption tools built-in to MacOS X 1.0. By providing a graphic user interface to the system's standard openssl tools, PuzzlePalace allows all Mac OS X users to easily drag and drop encrypted files to and from Mail messages (using Mail.app) or the Desktop.
PuzzlePalace also provides strong file encryption to other applications through an encryption/decryption service.
Files encrypted by PuzzlePalace can by decrypted (with the pass phrase) on any platform where the OpenSSL Toolkit, and more specifically the Blowfish CBC, Triple DES CBC, IDEA CBC, CAST128 CBC and/or RC5 CBC ciphers are available. Files that are encrypted on other platforms using these standard ciphers can be decrypted by PuzzlePlace if the pass phrase is known.

tell PuzzlePalace to decrypt a file, it puts a copy of the decrypted file into the /tmp directory, where it remains even after I logout. This is a pretty serious security hole. Suggestion to the author: each time you create a file in /tmp, you should unlink it immediately.

forward thinking and in tune with OS X like no other application or utility I've seen for OS X so far. Think of it as a drag-n-drop "service" and you've got the right idea. I'd like to see the author take this a step further in the next version allowing content, not just files, to be dragged into (and the encrypted result out of) PuzzlePalace, as well as a companion cocoa menu service to provide encryption/decryption directly in documents. This would be most useful with public-key type enryption, such as PGP. No doubt this capability is dependent upon Apple taking their OS X service (and thus document) concept to the next step.
