Product Description:

What is 3ivx?
3ivx MPEG-4 is a mature industry standard video compression system which enables the transmission and storage of video, which would otherwise be too large to store or transmit. 3ivx MPEG-4 5.0 for Mac OS X consists of MPEG-4 Video and File Format components for authoring and playback of MPEG-4 media.

Compared to Apple MPEG-4, 3ivx MPEG-4 5.0 encodes up to twice as fast, producing the same quality video at half the size.

Why should I install 3ivx?
The 3ivx decoder plays back most MPEG-4 variants (including DivX 3 through 6, Apple MPEG-4, Xvid and MS-MPEG-4v3). 3ivx MPEG-4 5.0 produces noticeably higher quality video than other decoders due to its high quality post-processing filters, and because of its core design and optimization maintains a record-breaking speed.

The 3ivx encoder produces industry-leading compact high quality MPEG-4 video and is distributed as a component for QuickTime. This allows you to create MPEG-4 video with any QuickTime compatible encoding application. 3ivx MPEG-4 encoded video can be played back by QuickTime 6 or 7 without the need for any additional component to be installed.

What's new in this version:

3ivx MPEG-4 5.0 now includes support for B-Frames, Interlaced Decoding and Global Motion Compensation. MPEG, H.263 and Custom Quantization Matrices and Quarter Pixel or Half Pixel Motion Interpolation with 8x8 or 16x16 Motion Vector functionality has also been added.

New CPU Complexity Controls enable realtime video encoding by allowing Speed vs Quality trade-offs, combined with VBR, CBR and ABR Single Pass modes provide enhanced Live Streaming capabilities. Video Archiving and Offline Production benefit from Dual Pass modes with Fast First Pass and Credit Suppression.

All components are MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3 and AltiVec hand optimized. Mac OS X versions are now Universal Binaries and optimized for Intel based Macs.

3ivx CommentaryWeb site back up - Version: 5.0.2, 10/21/2009 03:06AM PST

The 3ivx Web site is now back in its entirety, with store and support now visible. Keys can once again be downloaded. But don't expect an apology, or an explanation of what went wrong.....

3ivx CommentaryAbandonware...? - Version: 5.0.2, 9/24/2009 04:23AM PST

First the 3ivx Web site went away altogether, then it came back minus the store and forums. This means if you bought the product (as I did) it's now impossible to access your account and download the key which is essential to re-installing on a new or reformatted computer.

Avoid like the plague.

3ivx Commentaryincredibly annoying - Version: 5.0.2, 9/22/2009 03:11AM PST

Doesn't work, and when you think you uninstalled it, it stays stuck in your Library - Quicktime folder and will be used when you for example import an avi file into iMovie.
Which will result in that AVI file suddenly having this big ugly horrible "3iVX demo expired logo" over it (and I mean ALL over it!), and you wasted 2 hours importing a movie that before you installed and removed 3ivx would import just fine without the damned logo over it.
Stay away!
