CharView CommentaryLink downloads version 3.8.2 - Version: 3.8.3, 2/18/2008 12:00AM PST

As of the time I'm writing this (0715Z), the VersionTracker link (and the link on the developer's web site) downloads the older version 3.8.2. It appears 3.8.3 isn't available now. Has it been pulled or was the announcement premature?

CharView CommentaryWhy not use OS X's "Keyboard Viewer"... - Version: 3.7, 3/16/2006 02:58PM PST

I just use OS X's "Keyboard Viewer" that you can set up to use by opening International in Applications/SystemPreferences.

Used this for half a day - looked like a nice alternative for PopChar Pro. . . until the shareware reminder started popping-up every 30 seconds!
Sorry, guys - it became so irritating, I trashed it.

CharView ReviewOSX Character Palette blows in all directions - Version: 3.0.5, 10/1/2004 04:43PM PST

If you're a serious graphic designer this program is awesome. If you make your living using fonts and setting a lot of type CharView is worth it's weight in gold. The Built in OSX Character Palette is unbelivablly cumbersome. It doesn't show you the Key combination for any of the characters displayed and it's deadly slow.

CharView ReviewCan't quit, can't get to preferences, had to log out - Version: 3.0.2, 3/18/2004 11:46AM PST

If you use this, stay away from the movable menu icon. Stick with the floating palette.

The moveable menu icon got screwed up when I moved it to the right side fo trhe menu bar. Now rather than popping up the main window, it showed just the top left 1/4 inch and refused to respond any further.

That meant I couldn't get to the preferences button, and dock icon was turned off, and CharView didn't show up in the Force Quit dialog. So I had to logout to get it to die.

Then I trashed it. It's no PopChar replacement. Sticking with free Character Palette.

terrific! I find it much easier to use than its rivals--and the price is a steal. I'm retiring my copy of PopChar permanently!

pointing out that Jaguar character pallet! Great! (Preference Panel "International" -> tab "Input Menu" -> Check the "Character Pallette")

It would be nice to have a standard icon in the menu bar, like the monitor, sound, or messanger icons instead of the old-school floating "c" thing.

problems with running 2.2.1 on systems which had running older versions of CharView, try to remove "CharView Prefs" file from your Preferences folder. This is usually solves many problems.
