Product Description:

MenuStrip is a multi-purpose utility for Mac OS X that allows quick access to frequently used settings, such as the computer volume, monitor resolution, and color depth - right from the OS X menubar, or in a floating window similar to the OS 9 control strip. It also features an AppSwitcher Menu to switch between running applications, app hiding functionality such as 'Single App Mode' and 'Hide All' (which, as its name implies, hides all currently visible applications), and a configurable clock with chime and alarm capabilities.
MenuStrip is also extensible through its plugin architecture which allows for future development of useful utilities that can be quickly accessible and always avaliable in MenuStrip's floating window or in the menu bar.

What's new in this version:

  • MenuStrip can exist either in the menu bar or in its own floating window anywhere on the screen
  • Pressing cmd-ctrl-s will hide/show MenuStrip
  • AppSwitcher menu item which can switch between applications (similar to the OS 9 application menu)
  • Now all plugins can be arranged in any position (including the clock)
  • When running in Single App mode, certain user designated applications will not cause others to hide
  • Volume control updates with the keyboard volume keys
  • Updated plugin architecture

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1
  • Mac OS X 10.0

MenuStrip CommentaryThe developer is dead (but he keeps his bank account open)! - Version: 3.0.5, 4/3/2007 09:55AM PST

It's now over a year since kposer noted that this seemed to be abandoned software. Nothing new since then - and the same with the developer's other piece of software, iDraw. Their website pages have copyright dates up to 2004 or 2005. Their "contact us" form - to which they don't respond - asks you to select your OS version, but it only goes as far as 10.3.

But they're still happy to take your money!

I does what it says it does, which is a heck of a lot. Smoothly, easily and simply. It would have to be the number one productivity enhancement on my Mac.

My only concern is the lack of a Universal version and what appears to be any sign of future development.

My deepest wish is that MacOSX finally gets the equivalent of Boomerang and an Apps/shortcut menu on the menubar.

Unfortunately, Menustrip seems to be an abandoned piece of software. I wrote several times to the developer and never got an answer. Their website looks unchanged since about one year. A pity - this could have become one of the most valuable utilities for OS X.
