Thoth CommentaryThanks for the update - Version: 1.8.4, 7/8/2009 06:21AM PST

Am about to finally upgrade to Leopard and a new Intel Mac, so I'm really glad to hear that my favorite newsreader has a version updated for that system. I really appreciate the continued updates.

...saw I bought this in early 2002 for $25.00.

Regardless, Brian has been supporting this application for more years than than and I've had use of the best Mac newsreader for more than 7 years for only $25. I just sent him another $25 because Thoth is worth it, and maybe 1.9 will appear for real. I understand burnout... rather than criticism, I'd rather pass on encouragement.

Thoth ReviewNot much progress... - Version: 1.8.4, 5/31/2009 08:31PM PST

... since the developer first released Thoth 1.8.4 more than a year ago. That's right, not even a point upgrade in more than a year. And still no Universal Binary.
I'm a registered user who used to recommend Thoth, but the developer doesn't seem to care about it any more. So paying for this app at this time just doesn't strike me as a smart use of funds.
The freeware MT-Newswatcher is almost as good as Thoth, and the shareware app Unison has left it in the dust.

Brian - it's obvious people love your app. Develop a universal binary version. Please.

Thank you kindly for the update, Brian. We sorely miss your hard work, knowing there is little likelihood that another Mac newsreader will ever match the breadth of scope and flexibility of Thoth. It's a testament to your skills that Thoth remains the preferred solution by power users today, still usable after years of but minor tweaks..

I have had Thoth for many years and although I have other newsreaders (hogwasher,Unison,MTNewswatcher) I like Thoth the best . It is very Mac-like and does not resemble a Windows application in any way. Brian Clark has always been very responsive to eMail and he is a really good Developer. I use his Ptah, and Rosetta which is a great decoder. Rosetta I just wonder if Apple ever asked HIS permission to use the name since he had it first. Oh well that's another story.

here comes brian and the drama again..

just remember people. b.clark has a history of updating thoth, whining about people not downloading/installing/using/paying him fees, and withdrawing it from the market. repeatedly. for anyone considering paying the shareware fee please look into the history before you support this product and consider the alternatives. this "upgrade" is minor at best and doesn't take advantage of any of the new technologies from leopard. there are plenty of other great newsreaders (like unison) that are more worth your money.

i registered thoth years ago, got tired of the games and moved on, never looked back.

Though I am happy with this upgrade it would be nice to have an INTEL version of the app. I would even buy it again.

But it does seem like the author feels that it's not worth his time.

I bought Unison and have been trying that lately. It could grow on me.

..to see the author updating this. This version has been held over our heads for well over a year and I'm sure its worth the wait.. however, for some reason the author feels the user community owes him something more than the registration fee for the title in order for us to have his respect- at least as equal as the respect we've afforded him. I will no longer use his software regardless of whether or not he's finally gotten this version out to us. For those that remember what I'm talking about I stand with you in the endless boycott of this app. As fitting as it is for many people's needs, customer support and service should always accompany the product.
