Product Description:

Audio Overload is a video game music player for the Macintosh.

Formerly known as BNSF/MacOS, this program now supports .nsf (NES) tracks, .gbs (Gameboy) tracks, .spc (Super Nintendo) tracks, .gym (Genesis/Megadrive) logs, .sap (Atari XL/XE) tracks, .vgm (Sega Master System) tracks, and .sndh (Atari ST) tracks. It includes support for play lists, and it supports transparent decompresion of .rar and .gz archives. The GUI and icons were designed specifically for this program by PB1400c. Audio Overload is a Carbon application, and thus runs without problems under MacOS X. It also runs just fine under earlier MacOS releases.

What's new in this version:

  • Audio Overload now uses Carbon Events. One notable difference because of this is that CPU usage while AO is in the foreground on my Mac hovers around 15-20%, compared to 80% with v1.3
  • Added support for VGM playing. VGM files contain Sega Master System and Game Gear music. Both PSG (SN76496) and FM (YM2413) sound chips are supported
  • Added support for reading GZIP compressed files
  • Added automatic volume level adjustment. Please read the section of the manual discussing this carefully, as it can be a bit hit and miss
  • Added the ability to pause for a few seconds between tracks for those using Audio Overload to record out to Minidisc players (apparently there are some of you!)
  • Updated to Fx31s latest Konami VRC6 emulation
  • Added the ability to adjust the number of seconds used to fade out at the end of a track
  • Added a volume level indicator to the main display (and the ability to turn it off)
  • Updated to the latest YM2612 emulation core - sound is quite a bit better now
  • Totally reworked the preferences and channel configuration dialog boxes
  • Fixed a number of issues under OS X 10.1
  • Fixed the Shuffle Tracks feature so that it doesn1t jump right back to the track it has just played
  • Fixed a bug where AO could occasionally forget what song was playing
  • Fixed a bug where AO could sometimes freeze when changing tracks

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.1
  • Mac OS X 10.0
  • Mac OS Classic

Additional Requirements:

  • CarbonLib 1.3 (or later) or Mac OS X

Audio Overload Troubleshooting ReportSPC speed - Version: 2.0, 8/27/2009 05:01PM PST

First of all, just wanted to let you know this is a great application!

However, I've recently encountered some problems with playing back SPC files. Some seem to play at the wrong speed. This is especially problematic for me since I am attempting to convert the songs losslessly to WAV (which is something AO does very well in other fomats).

Also, it seems like a nice feature would be an option to change the sampling rate.

Hope my comments were helpful. Thanks again for the great app!

PSF files play too fast. This is most obvious with music that has unsynthesized audio samples within the songs, such as Final Fantasy VII's song "One Winged Angel." The choir samples are painfully out of sync with the rest of the instrumentation.

Also, it seems that I can no longer toggle on or off individual channels. I've only tested this on GYM, NSF, and SPC files, but they all had been working in the previous version.

I use a Power Mac G5 dual 2.3 Ghz with 2.5 Gb of RAM if that helps any.

Thanks again for making such an awesome app!

Now I can play the majority of files over at Zophar. Ease of use is good, but the "Forward" and "Back" buttons are usually greyed out. Usually it's no problem for me just to click on the next track in the list, though.
