robust as MTNewswatcher. Cannot sort articles and lacks many of the user selectable preferences that make MTNewswatcher superior. This is an entry level generic newsreader for newbies.

2.2.3b1 is because I have used Newswatcher for so long and miss this great program in OSX. The comment by benjk about the date of the post not being displayed is the tip of the iceberg, # of lines is also missing. Worse yet: the posts can't be sorted because that option does not exist. Try to download 125,000 mp3 files and go through them one by one to find all the related segments. Sorting by song titles made this simple. W/O sorting...omigosh, back to classic.

good start for those who don't mind barebones. However, carbonisation doesn't seem to be complete yet, which reaches from minor things like a few buttons still showing up in classic appearance to major issues like preferences not capable to recognise OSX apps (try to select TextEdit instead of SimpleText). Also, there are no progress gauges, which is rather annoying. Another severe shortcoming is that the date of postings is not displayed in the list. Oh and well, it would be nice to have an OSX icon but this is of course not essential.

NewsWatcher X on an iMac DV running 10.0.x before. It works well. It is not perfect, but it is good, quite simple, in short: excellent if you remember that it is FREE. In contrast to the previous reader, I like classic and also the "carbon" approach: both will help us to migrate from 9 to X -- provided we have lots of RAM...

it is free. Have used previous versions and they were ok. Will give it a go as I need a newsreader for OS 10. Hate Classic.

weirdness with the text editing window in NewsWatcher-X 2.2.3b1: it doesn't always update properly when I press Return to add a new line to the middle of an article, and there's no 'Paste' option to insert text from the clipboard! I'll give it two stars for its uncomplicated interface, but it REALLY needs to be fixed!

OS X yet, but what about using Deja.com for newsreading? It certainly has some disadvantages (mainly, no filters!), but there are advantages too. In particular, that I can read anywhere on any machine and it keeps track of what I have and haven't read so that I'm not guessing which ones I've read and which ones I haven't when I use multiple machines to read news. I'm sure you'll all scoff, but I switched from MT-Newswatcher, which is great, about a year ago and I don't want to switch back. I just keep asking the deja.com people to add filtering! :)

Slow. If you are used to Outlook, then you will not be happy waiting 15min for a large newsgroup to open (I'm not exaggerating).
