Norton put me more in trouble than it revolved any problem to me.
When I tried to reach their support, it NEVER replied.
Then they're a lying bastards about security on OS.
What this keynote of them ordered by Mr Allen and mr Gates.
For whom do those guys roll ?

Symantec Norton SystemWorks Usage TipThey AREN'T going to update for Tiger (10.4)! - Version: 3.0, 8/16/2005 03:26PM PST

I just updated to a new iMac G5 which is running Tiger. I kept getting a weird message on start-up telling Norton Auto Protect Antivirus wasn't working, and to reinstall. I did, and it happened again.

I just called Symantec to find out why, and they told me that SystemWorks 3 is the last version they're doing of Mac software. They have put out a new compatible version of Norton Anti-Virus that is compatible, and as a small token, the guy told me I could get 5 percent off the price for having owned a previous Mac product.

This stinks! Does anyone have a suggestion for other good utilities/anti-virus that will support the Mac and future generations of OS X?

Symantec Norton SystemWorks ReviewKinda Disapointing - Version: 3.0, 8/16/2005 01:43PM PST

I've used Norton's since the early '70's when Peter made software for the HP mainframes and he hadn't retired and sold his company.

With the handoff to Symantec, the quality stayed high. I was even able to weather the OS 8.6 debacle.

But now the well has run dry. The "improvements" made to this version are more heartache than help. There is no information that I have been able to find to date that explains the problems with Tiger or even promises to address them.

I have learned to only run it off the CD and to upgrade AntiVirus, but I want more! I want the great support of years gone by. I want software that works right the first time. I want upgrades that clearly state which operating system they're for.

And because I'm not getting it from Symantec, I'm going to look elsewhere. Sorry, Peter.

I have just received my very first Apple, G5, and having used many Symantec products over the years on Windows systems, I was excited when I saw System Works 3.0 for Mac. What a mistake! I have tried about a half dozen times to get Norton Antivirus installed on Tiger (10.4.2) and to no avail. Finishes installation only to tell me I have to reinstall Antivirus. I have even tried updating during the install only to have the stupid live update stop on me at exactly 4.1 mb. Uninstalling is impossible. Doing uninstall and all I get is these error messages saying Unknown Error. Finally have gotten rid of most of the files. Some I cannot delete because according to Norton, some files are still in use. Suppose I will find what they are talking about overtime. Please, save yourself the time and headaches and avoid this product altogether, IMHO.

Hopefully Norton will come up with an uninstaller -or instructions- for those of us who have already upgraded to Tiger 10.4
Apparently AntiVirus will keep working, but not Utilities.

Symantec Norton SystemWorks ReviewGoodbye - Version: 3.0, 5/5/2005 03:46PM PST

Goodbye, Norton Utilities for the Mac. I know that everyone else hated you, but I loved you. I was a former PC snob who had used NU since version 1.0 under MS-DOS, when the sight of seeing Peter Norton's arms folded on the box cover could still bring a tear to my eye. When I became a Mac fanatic, I was glad to find an old friend on this side of the fence. It was painful having to watch you endure the slings and arrows of hate from those who felt you just weren't up to par in your Mac incarnation, but I want you to know there was at least one person out here who still adored you. Unfortunately, I'm about to upgrade to OS X Tiger any day now, and that means I have to let you go. I'll really miss you. Ah, parting is such sweet sorrow. It's been a long, strange trip, and maybe someday we'll meet again in that big Apple graveyard in the sky. So long, old friend.

After installing Tiger, I immediately get an alert stating that AntiVirus will not work and that I need to reinstall. So I go through the steps and reinstall but still get the same message. Keep in mind, Norton's been working great under Panther. So unless there's a patch released, It's incompatible for the moment.

Symantec Norton SystemWorks ReviewSurprised - Version: 3.0, 4/9/2005 10:07AM PST

I got SystemWorks since there was a very nice rebate and I wanted to have a decent antivirus program. Based on a previous experience with Norton I avoided using its other programs (e.g., Disk Doctor, Speed Disk, etc.).
I have used Speed Disk many times and on many partitions, and have not had a problem with it.
I avoided using Disk Doctor until last night when DiskWarrior identified some damage (a custom icon) it could not repair. That was surprising. I tried many other repair programs that did not identify the problem. I also tried to manually remove the damaged file, but could not identify it accurately. And then, as a last resort, I used Disk Doctor. With it, I created an alias to the file, and was able to fix the problem.
Based on my previous experiences I doubt that Disc Doctor will get much use, but on this particular occasion it performed better than DiskWarrior. That was surprising indeed, and some recognition is due.

Symantec Norton SystemWorks CommentaryNorton is a Rip Off - Version: 3.0, 11/13/2004 09:58AM PST

Do Not Buy Norton Products that offer a rebate. They will rip you off EVERY TIME and there is no way to get a hold of them. They just refuse it and then give you some excuse that you didn't send in the right information. I even scanned all the info before I sent it to them (as they ask for all the originals, receipts, disks, etc) and when they rejected my rebate because I didn't send in the disk, I sent them a color copy (along side my receipt, UBC code, etc, that I had scanned) and they still refused my rebate. No live person to talk to.. just a card in the mail telling me to resubmit but I couldn't because they have all my originals and when I sent them a color scan of what I sent in they still refused me..
THIS COMPANY SUCKS !!! DO YOU HEAR ME NORTON.. I WILL GIVE YOU THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS YOU DESERVE EVERYWHERE I CAN becuase you dirty @#%@%@#$'s ripped me off for a lousy $30.00 for the last time (yes there have been other times, that is why I was so careful, followed the directions to a "T" and color scanned everything (in a group shot) before I sent it to them.. and they STILL RIPPED ME OFF.
YOU SUCK BIGTIME !!!
