Product Description:

iCab is a web browser for the Macintosh. The development of iCab is not finished at the moment, some features of the final version are missing. But you can try the iCab Preview at the download page. In the next few months better versions of iCab will be offered on our site. After the first final release, we will offer "iCab Pro" for $29. You will also be able to download a version for free.

What's new in this version:

Beta 352 fixes a problem with the "check for iCab update" feature of Beta 351.

This release fixed many layout issues and has some new features, like the easy access to all files of a web page (a list of files, sorted by type [HTML/XHTML code, JavaScript, StyleSheets, Images, Plugin data]), much improved text selection, much more easier modification of the "identity" setting to be more compatible to certain other browsers and much more.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

iCab is a very small and very fast browser. It has outstanding security features, many different identities to optimize surfing, full control of all features, strong password memory and an unusual but extremely useful ability to save the page as pdf file (for bank statements, receipts, etc.). It also has superior text encoding allowing to correctly render foreign language files unreadable in several other browsers. It is constantly improving and can easily rival or beat many commercial browsers. iCab users enjoy personalized, fast, and professional customer support and Alexander actually listens to comments and improves the product constantly. My only suggestion would be to implement an option found so far only in Flock: treat attachments in webmail as links and have an option "save the link as". Highly recommend this browser.

iCab had languished for quite a while some time back. But, when it came back, it had really improved. I still use Safari ore often just die to convenience, but iCab is an excellent browser, too.

I have been using iCab on and off since OS 8 days, and I'm pleased to commend the developer for continuing to support OS 8.5 & 9 as I have a few clients that still! use those systems. Internet Explorer and Netscape are not nearly as capable as iCab on those systems.

Although I mostly use Safari in OS 10, I keep most of the dozen or so different browsers on my systems for testing purposes, and iCab performs with the best of them. Great preference set, and very compact footprint. Firefox takes forever to boot up, while iCab launches faster than Safari.

One suggestion though: give us a color choice on the toolbar buttons. The yellow is a bit garish. Maybe a blue, teal, and purple choice would be nice. Something a bit more soothing. And I kind of miss the tacky little yellow cab progress indicator with it's cloud of exhaust.
