iCab is a very small and very fast browser. It has outstanding security features, many different identities to optimize surfing, full control of all features, strong password memory and an unusual but extremely useful ability to save the page as pdf file (for bank statements, receipts, etc.). It also has superior text encoding allowing to correctly render foreign language files unreadable in several other browsers. It is constantly improving and can easily rival or beat many commercial browsers. iCab users enjoy personalized, fast, and professional customer support and Alexander actually listens to comments and improves the product constantly. My only suggestion would be to implement an option found so far only in Flock: treat attachments in webmail as links and have an option "save the link as". Highly recommend this browser.
Good Product

iCab had languished for quite a while some time back. But, when it came back, it had really improved. I still use Safari ore often just die to convenience, but iCab is an excellent browser, too.
Very useful app.

I have been using iCab on and off since OS 8 days, and I'm pleased to commend the developer for continuing to support OS 8.5 & 9 as I have a few clients that still! use those systems. Internet Explorer and Netscape are not nearly as capable as iCab on those systems.
Although I mostly use Safari in OS 10, I keep most of the dozen or so different browsers on my systems for testing purposes, and iCab performs with the best of them. Great preference set, and very compact footprint. Firefox takes forever to boot up, while iCab launches faster than Safari.
One suggestion though: give us a color choice on the toolbar buttons. The yellow is a bit garish. Maybe a blue, teal, and purple choice would be nice. Something a bit more soothing. And I kind of miss the tacky little yellow cab progress indicator with it's cloud of exhaust.

Neither iCab or Safari is free and both are excellent.
I prefer iCab because it has many features that Safari lacks.
iCab is now my browser of choice

iCab used to be my favouite back in the OS 8 and OS 9 days and I've returned to it after a few years away on the dark side, and then the last 5 years bouncing between Camino, Firefox, and Safari, and dabbling with Opera. I've been using it exclusively for the past two months and have to say I'm very impressed.
If you don't want or need the extendable multi-developer bloatware that results from plugging everything in to Firefox, but prefer a very fast WebKit based browsing experience with low RAM and CPU footprint, that comes from the efficiency of a purpose-built Mac only browser, and which still includes advanced features - download manager, secure forms manager, filter manager, YouTube downlaods, session saving and recording, website archives, web app creation, kiosk mode, etc. - at no extra cost, then do yourself a favour and give iCab a try. You won't be disapointed ... and then you can go and get iCab Mobile for your iPhone/iPod touch too and have the consistency that brings.
iCab is a very standards focused app that plays extremely well with the Mac environment. Developement of the app seems efficient with regular updates, and support is very responsive and helpful - just like the app itself.
At $20, iCab is a steal, but will run for free without limitations as nag-ware. I could not recommend iCab, and iCab Mobile, more highly.

I use iCab since Mac OS 9 and I love this piece of software and the philosophy of the development. Everybody should test iCab for a while. Thereby you should have a closer look to the preferences and above all the "Filter-Manager".
By the way - with iCab you can download YouTube movies directly without an additional tool.
Try it.

After all that work updating to version 4.6, accessing "Get Info" on the app still shows it as being version 4.5. But trying to update from iCab's Help Menu shows there are no updates available (i.e., version 4.6 is already running).
The "About iCab" splash screen is correct though...version 4.6.0.

Weird Thing #1: iCab is Still being Developed

I remember rocking iCab back on OS 8.5, where it's major selling point was that it was the browser that fit on a floppy (remember floppies?), who would have thought that ten years later, with all the various Mozillas, Safaris, Caminos, IEs, Firefoxs, etc. it would still be in development? And, not only that but...
Weird Thing #2: I really like it
It's got a great interface, stacks of options, doesn't hog resources, and it's really, really, really fast.
Sure they want $25, but c'mon, they've kept this thing updated and running through all of Apple's crazy ups and downs over the past decade, that has to be worth something. And, I'm not just giving points for tenacity, it's really a great and quick browser.
If you're like me (and the rest of the world) who's forgotten about iCab's existence, give it another look. You'll be really (and weirdly) surprised..

I have tried every browser that I could find for OS 10.4.11 and eventually settled on iCab as my default browser. Why? Because it is fast, stable, has an interface I like (without having to use a third party add-on such as Saft--I hate the brushed metal look of Safari) and offers many pref setting options not available in most of the other browsers. Plus, iCab's Forms Manager makes it likely to be less of a security risk than any of the other browsers.
The one thing I have discovered about the settings that might be a help to others: for max compatibility with various sites, choosing "Safari 3, Mac OS X" seems to work without a hitch, whereas "Identity for best compatibility" does not.
