Product Description:

UTC Display simply displays Universal Time in a small window in any corner of your screen and/or in the Mac OS X dock icon. It can also display the current UTC date. Amateur astronomers, shortwave radio listeners, and others no longer need to mentally convert between their menubar clock's standard time and Universal Time. UTC Display can automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time, and may configured for use worldwide. Its "Auto-Hide" feature keeps UTC Display from interfering with other screen items.

What's new in this version:

  • Display prefixes may now be up to four characters long, instead of three, enabling such prefixes as “UTC â€? with a trailing space.
  • Preferences Window now remembers previously-selected screen corner display when reopening the window.
  • Rearranged Preference Windows to make the “UTC / Time Zoneâ€? sections more prominent.
  • Added Balloon Help to Mac Classic version.
  • Added some help tags and revised wording of additional help tags in Preferences Window.
  • Multiple copying of screen corner display times (SHIFT-OPTION-CONTROL-click) now more reliably copies times to clipboard when screen corner display contains a display prefix.
  • Option-clicking to show Preferences Window — when it was already open — no longer disables ability to revert preferences by clicking “Cancelâ€? in the Preferences Window.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9

UTC Display X Developer NoteAbout App Size - Version: 3.1a7, 10/7/2008 12:21PM PST

This app is reasonably-sized, considering it contains sampled sounds, dozens of user interface windows, and a very rich feature set. It does much more than display time "here and there"; it provides unlimited timers, stopwatches, hourly chimes, chime sets, AppleScript scheduling, extensive built-in and editable Daylight Saving Time rules, and a whole lot more.

As the developer, I strive to put all of this into a streamlined and intuitive interface, but all of this functionality simply takes space. Furthermore, UTC Global Clock is the result of many users' input, which I think leads to a very flexible and useful product.

Why is a clock with a few bits and pieces over eight megabytes? That seems odd to me. All that just to show the time here and there. WOW.

UTC Display X Developer NoteIt's possible to Quit UTC Display when hiding Dock Icon - Version: 2.0.1, 3/19/2006 06:21PM PST

As I indicated in my reply to siriusfox1 (below), most of UTC Display's functionality is still available, even without the dock icon visible. It's all in the .pdf User Guide, but I thought I'd also post it here:

Here's a quick listing of clicks in the Screen Corner Displays:

OPTION + SHIFT + CLICK = Quit UTC Display
OPTION + CLICK = Open Preferences Window
SHIFT + CLICK = Momentarily display date
CONTROL + SHIFT + CLICK = Copy time to the clipboard
CONTROL + OPTION + SHIFT + CLICK = Append another time to the clipboard

'Hope that helps!
