UTC Global Clock Developer NoteAbout App Size - Version: 3.1a7, 10/7/2008 12:21PM PST

This app is reasonably-sized, considering it contains sampled sounds, dozens of user interface windows, and a very rich feature set. It does much more than display time "here and there"; it provides unlimited timers, stopwatches, hourly chimes, chime sets, AppleScript scheduling, extensive built-in and editable Daylight Saving Time rules, and a whole lot more.

As the developer, I strive to put all of this into a streamlined and intuitive interface, but all of this functionality simply takes space. Furthermore, UTC Global Clock is the result of many users' input, which I think leads to a very flexible and useful product.

Why is a clock with a few bits and pieces over eight megabytes? That seems odd to me. All that just to show the time here and there. WOW.

UTC Global Clock Developer NoteIt's possible to Quit UTC Display when hiding Dock Icon - Version: 2.0.1, 3/19/2006 06:21PM PST

As I indicated in my reply to siriusfox1 (below), most of UTC Display's functionality is still available, even without the dock icon visible. It's all in the .pdf User Guide, but I thought I'd also post it here:

Here's a quick listing of clicks in the Screen Corner Displays:

OPTION + SHIFT + CLICK = Quit UTC Display
OPTION + CLICK = Open Preferences Window
SHIFT + CLICK = Momentarily display date
CONTROL + SHIFT + CLICK = Copy time to the clipboard
CONTROL + OPTION + SHIFT + CLICK = Append another time to the clipboard

'Hope that helps!

UTC Global Clock Troubleshooting ReportCan't quit - Version: 2.0.1, 3/19/2006 02:14PM PST

When you set the icon to not show up, it is no longer possible to quit the app. I had to go in via command line to quit it. This problem should be fixed in some way. Like a menubar icon or something.

It seems to me that this used to run on startup; I now have to activate it. Am I doing something wrong? Haven't been running any of the betas, BTW.

UTC Global Clock Developer NoteShadow Preference Coming - Version: 1.3.5, 1/26/2006 07:27AM PST

Good point on the shadow preference.

I had so many complaints about the window shadowing, I just removed it thinking that this is what most people wanted -- it certainly looks less obtrusive.

But choice is good, and I'll get to work making the OS X shadowing a Mac OS X preference within the next day or two.

UTC Global Clock ReviewRemoved shadow? - Version: 1.3.5, 1/26/2006 06:29AM PST

I don't agree with the shadow "removal". Admitting that this little app is NOT in any way mine, I still feel that users should ahve options, not limitations. So, whatever the reason for shadow removal was, it sure doesn't hit the spot with me. Aesthetically! So, I won't be downloading the latest "downgrade". Note to developer: IF you needed the shadow (which looked fine) removed, you should have made it an OPTION, that's why designers spent so much time developing those cool buttons and radio buttons or what have you, so developoers could use them to flip/flop cool features in their app's preferences.

I have been using this program for awhile, and just installed the new version. No problems with downloading or hiding the icon from the dock. It seems to launch faster.

From the developer: My web hoster had the MIME types set wrong for the new .sitx archive type, but only for about an hour. I would recommend that the below two posters re-download, and use the absolute LATEST version of Stuffit Expander (10.0.1) to decompress the archive. You should have no problems then.
