English automation exists: Take a look at Sergey Kurkin's JEDict 3.6.5 (http://jedict.com) -- a beautiful Carbon interface to Jim Breen's famous EDict dictionary/ies at the University of Monash. I agree with the general consensus regarding Nuku. Very nice.

There remains one app that I don't think anyone has written yet, and I'm taking this opportunity to make it an open call to anyone up to the challenge. I'd like to see a Romaji -> English translator. All current translators that I've seen assume Japanese text input, yet none do anything with romaji. I envision something that could take romaji input, translate it internally to kana, then do a language translation lookup from that. Someone? Anyone?
