SimpleImage ReviewGood but... - Version: 5.0.6, 8/16/2008 12:35PM PST

Initial impression is positive. Appears to be useful for producing thumbnails out of a folder of pictures.

However, I'm hoping to find more features, either in this one or a next release. Would like to see expanded functionality in browse mode for dealing with individual files. For example, I am browsing a directory of files and I'd like to sort through the files, tag or otherwise select files I want to 'keep', and then be able to copy/move those tagged files to another directory. I dont see that at the moment. If I double click on a thumb and open the file, I can do that, but that's fairly painful when you are dealing with a dozen or more files.

Also, I notice that the shareware starts off showing I have zero days left on evaluation. It still appears to work, but does go into 'nag' mode like with 'unregistered' watermark.

SimpleImage CommentaryLimited Demo - Version: 5.0.2, 2/1/2008 12:00AM PST

The demo is too limited for me to get a real idea of what SimpleImage can do. If the developer is too afraid of me to let me put it through its paces, then I'm afraid I cannot trust him either. Which means I certainly won't be plunking down $25 for his product. The principle of shareware is to allow users to try out a program before buying it. This is not possible with the demo of SimpleImage (I cannot access the preferences, for instance, to remove the distracting default transition or change the timing of the slide show). After quitting and relaunching the app, it is totally disabled - it won't do anything. The author clearly does not understand what shareware is about nor does he have the slightest idea how to sell his work. It could be the best image viewer on the market, but if we cannot determine for ourselves that it meets our needs - without risk - it will sell only to those willing to gamble on the mere possibility it will meet their expectations. Unless he loosens up his demo policies, SimpleImage will never compete with ViewIt and Graphic Converter, neither of which is crippleware in the unregistered version.

Runs great in Leopard. Extremely useful and well worth the money. I agree with Backtalk this and Graphic Converter are both terrific apps.
