Product Description:

DrScheme is an interactive, integrated, graphical programming environment for the Scheme, MzScheme, and MrEd programming languages.


DrScheme provides source highlighting for syntax and run-time errors, support for multiple language levels, an algebraic stepper, objects, modules, a GUI library, TCP/IP, and much more. It includes an extensive, hyper-linked help system called Help Desk, available from the Help menu. Tour of DrScheme describes many of these features in greater detail.


You can enhance DrScheme with many add-ons, including MrFlow, a static debugger, and MysterX, which adds COM support under Windows.

As previously noted, the distribution still creates a folder with the version number, so when moved, e.g., to the ~/Applications subdirectory it still does not overwrite the older version, and thus requires making a new link into the Dock.
Otherwise it is probably the best programming environment, which both my 11-year-old grandson and any experienced Lisp/Scheme programmer can enjoy on any platform.

The product is getting better with each update.
I have one wish/suggestion: the installer should be able to replace the previous
version, rather than install the new version in addition to the old one.
For those of us with smaller disks (< 30 GB) adding an extra 66 MB with each update matters!
In addition, when you remove the old version its icon in the Dock
points to a nonexisting application.
