Product Description:

StdMap displays the orbits of 13 different area-preserving mappings which exhibit chaotic and regular dynamics. With the program you can find periodic orbits, stable manifolds and invariant circles/cantori, and iterate arbitrary curves.

What's new in this version:

A couple of fixes to the major revision 4.4
  • Fixed international formatting for "save iterates to file"
  • Removed Help tags from Menu titles as they can cause a port error.
  • Set Separatrix map to default to wrap y periodically (0 < y < 1). See Clipping Menu to change.
  • Fixed crash if user quit in the middle of drawing stable manifolds.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9

StdMap Reviewadjust overall rating - Version: 4.4.5, 9/1/2006 02:47PM PST

adjusting my rating by way of another "review"; i came on a bit strong first time, however i still think respect is due to the non-mathemeticians who may encounter this listing on versiontracker through no fault of their own; a nod in the right direction was the addition of some serious on-open eyecandy

through the references in the help i have learned that the Standard Map was originally constructed to describe the dynamics of magnetic field lines

hint -- drag mouse across the blank window to draw some interesting pictures ...

hard to know why something like this would be submitted to VersionTracker when the description, the interface, the help, and the references cited in the help are all written using the odd language of mathematics; i can tell this app involves theoretical mathematics and pretty pictures, and i can imagine what "area preserving mappings" might be, etc., but that's because i've had close friendships with a few mathematicians; i think most people will be befuddled by the lack of even a paragraph of description in lay terminology
