Product Description:

OmniDiskSweeper is a great tool for making space on Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server and Mac OS 9 disks.

When you start OmniDiskSweeper, it presents you with a list of disks attached to your machine. You double-click on one, and a new window opens with a browser listing every file and directory on that disk, sorted by size. This is very fast for HFS+ partitions: it takes about seven seconds to process one gigabyte. UFS partitions are significantly slower.

Then you browse through the files and directories, and delete the large ones that you aren't using any more. The free space on the disk and the ordering of the directories are automatically recalculated. If you aren't sure what's in a file, you can double-click it or drag it onto an app on it to open it. It's that simple!

What's new in this version:

  • Hopefully worked around an issue on 10.5 Leopard which would sometimes cause our normally well-behaved "lsbom" child tasks to turn into zombie processes that would fill up the user's process table, leading to "No more processes" errors in other applications. (We weren't able to reproduce this here, so we can't prove that this fixes the issue. If you were seeing this, please let us know if this fix works!)
  • Rewrote the package scanner to find all the system packages on 10.5 Leopard.
  • If we can't find the factory-installed font "Helvetica-Oblique" (which we normally use for linked files), we now fall back on using the system font rather than crashing.
  • The built-in software update can now automatically download and install its updates.

OmniDiskSweeper ReviewAt least it didn't crash - Version: 1.7, 2/25/2009 04:37PM PST

After having crashes with the prior version I had given up. I was glad to see a new version. I fired it up and it didn't crash. I selected a previous system from early last year and clicked on the delete icon. I confirmed and after 1/2 hour nothing had happened except the trashing message was still there. I then quit OmniDiskSweeper. As a test I selected the same folder in Finder, hit command delete, command shift delete and the trash is still being emptied as I type. In fairness, Finder takes a long tome as well. I should note that TM is running. I will try another test after some other brave soul takes the point.

Just downloaded the 1.7 version to use with my iMac running Leopard v.10.56. No problems with download, easy install & very quick indexing of my 250Gb HD. Excellent ordered listing of every items file size. Very useful & free too.

$14.95 for this one-trick pony? To do something I can do myself using the Finder? Greedy, greedy, greedy.
