Fontographer - Version: 3.0, 3/29/2007 03:51AM PST

This comment list needs some updating. Fontographer became available for the Mac again over a year ago for OS X and is now at version 4.7.3. It is made by FontLab, the same company that makes TypeTool. Fontographer, however, is much more expensive. And their signature product, even more expensive, is FontLab Studio. The choice depends on your needs and your budget.
A good application

Fontographer is dead, so for us "hobby" font designers TypeTool is a good way to go; the software is easy to use and the price is okay. What I didn't like was the paranoid license registration process, telling me I would recieve my serial number emailed within one day -- after waiting for four days I have noticed an *additional* registration button on the app's splash window (the app was running in demo mode), bringing me to yet another form on Fontlab's web site and letting me typing all my personal data (that I have given them already while purchasing the software online) once again. Then, finally, a couple of hours later I have recieved the serial. Also note: the serial number obviously belongs to the exact copy of the installer; if your backup copy of the installer you have downloaded would get lost you will have to pay a *fee* for the permission to download a new installer. Oh well...
