Product Description:

Grammarian PRO X is an arsenal of professional writing tools to combat those embarrassing writing errors that everyone tends to make, a universal interactive grammar checking, spelling checking, dictionary, thesaurus, autocorrect, and autotype tool which works with virtually every program on your computer even if a program does or doesn't have these features. Grammarian PRO X works interactively or in batch correction mode and automatically starts working in your applications to correct spelling, grammar, phrase usage, and punctuation. Use the built-in dictionary/thesaurus assistant to look up definitions and verify the correct choice of words. AutoCorrection corrects many spelling mistakes automatically as you type. Also, create AutoType shorthand macros which will automatically type your commonly used signature phrases.

What's new in this version:

  • New for Snow Leopard functionality/compatability: Grammarian "Actuator" code automatically selects the Grammarian input menu component as the active input source whenever you switch to an application running in 32-bit mode. Because of the many bugs with Snow Leopard, the Finder still cannot be switched and launched to 32-bit mode. Thus, this Grammarian "Actuator" code cannot automatically switch with the Finder.
  • New for Snow Leopard functionality/compatability: Grammarian "Actuator" preference pane. The preference pane allows the activation/deactivation of the Grammarian "Actuator" code. Customize the Grammarian preferences window toobar by selecting "Customize". Drag the "Activator" icon into the toolbar.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC

Grammarian PRO X CommentaryDon't Even Bother Using with Snow Leopard - Version: 1.8.6b2, 10/9/2009 09:35PM PST

As I've said before, Grammarian has saved my bacon more times than I care to remember, but it's always been cranky. As the dictionary says, "A badly assembled collection of parts hastily assembled to serve some particular purpose (often used to refer to computing systems or software that has been badly put together)." Getting it to work with Snow Leopard is painful. Crashes galore and erratic behavior. Let's see whether the developer can pull this back from the abyss with a new version.

Grammarian PRO X CommentaryTons More Rules, But Still Fairly Stupid - Version: 1.8.3, 1/11/2009 06:14PM PST

For the slang word "gonna" it suggested this to help correct the error:

"i before e except after c or when sounding like A as in neighbor and weigh."

It does offer up some good suggestions, but just like Word and most other checkers, it's still too stupid to understand what it is you're doing and will still suggest you do things that are just blatantly incorrect. You still need a grasp of grammar and usage so that you don't make ridiculous mistakes based on what it thinks it's found. Thus, it throws every rule that I don't know in doubt when it suggests them, because if it's wrong about that, is wrong about this too? It did find some things that surprised me I over looked so bonus points there, but it's very slow, you constantly get the beach ball of death waiting on it and in the newest Word for Mac, it doesn't actually correct the text, I have to make the changes by hand as I follow it along... so what's the point?
